Rona and Jace were relaxing on the sofa, eating chips, and popcorn, and basically everything that was in the pantry. The only requirement: it had to be unhealthy of course. Both of them had remote controls in there hands, they were playing a violent game. Clary, Luke, and Jocelyn had gone to town to pick up more food. Jonathan? Jonathan was somewhere. She tried not to think about him too much, it wasn't working very well. It's been exactly 27 hours since she found out that she liked him, therefore it's been 27 hours since they talked or have seen each other.
"Jace, resurrect me!" She cried. Her character was hanging on the little bit of life she had left. "Jace!"
"You're brining our team down" he justified
"So you let me die!"
"I did what I had to do"
Suddenly, her heart stopped beating, or it was beating very fast that she couldn't even feel it. She heard few steps coming toward the living room. Without thinking she jumped behind the couch.
"Come on! You don't have to sulk behind the sofa just because I didn't save you" Jace said.
"Is Rona here?" Jace looked at Jonathan who hand just entered the room.
Oh, Jace thought, that's why she hide behind the couch. "She is behind the couch" he announced
"Jace!" She cursed
"You can't avoid him forever" his attention was still in the game.
"Avoid me?" Jonathan asked. "Are you avoiding me?"
"I am not avoiding you" she said from behind the couch. She couldn't see him, maybe that was for the best. Because whenever she saw him she had this urgency to pin against the wall and kiss me. Her hands would be tangled in his hair and his hands would resting on the curve of her back. And they would just stand there for hours upon hours mesmerizing each other, and it would be perfect.
"Then what're are you doing behind the sofa?" Jonathan raised his eyebrow
"Umm...finding my earring. Found it!" She jumped up and saw him standing perfectly in the center of the room. His hair clumsily falling over his eyes. And his eyes reminding her of all the things she wanted to do with him.
"Then there's a carnival near by if you want to go"
"I can't...I have to help Jace win the game, he isn't very good at it" she made an excuse.
He clenched his jaw and his features darkened. If she knew better she might say he was hurt by her response. "Well, when you are done avoiding me, I will be in my room"
"Jonathan, I—" before she finished her sentence Jonathan had left the room. He seemed angry, that was a first for Rona. She sighed and glared at Jace.
"Don't look at me I was just helping" he was still focused on the game.
"Ugh!" She threw a pillow at Jace mad then also stormed out the room.
She knocked on his door but the door creaked open instead. Maybe he didn't lock it. Jonathan was no where in sight. It makes sense, he was dramatic like that, telling people to come see him in his room and then disappeared so they know what disappointment feels like. To not see him for a minute is disappointing, but to wake up one day and not associate the name Jonathan with him is simply heart wrenching.
She slid her feet on the fuzzy carpet. She pretended that she was skating, and that is the only way to transport yourself in anything slippery. His room here was dull and lacked color, just like his room back home. Everything was neatly tucked away, and there was not an ounce of personality lingering on the walls. On his dresser was a framed picture of him and his mom at the aquarium. It was probably the only picture of them she has seen together. Jonathan looked about 8 years old, his cheeks were swollen and he was angry about something. He has always had that attitude. Rona smiled, wondering what small thing had dissatisfied Mr, Morgenstern then.
"My mother took me to the aquarium to tell me she was going to leave my dad" a gloomy voice spoke behind her. She gently set the picture back on the dresser. Maybe it was not a small thing bothering him.
"I'm sorry" she said
"It's fine, that was the first time I went to the aquarium. I figured that I hate it" Jonathan sat on his bed. His face so tense, he tried so hard to not let his emotions reach the exterior. There is nothing that Rona wanted more than to sit beside him and rest her head on his shoulder. She would sit there begging the Universe: please let him be soft. She doesn't want to see the the world crush him down to dust, his eyes into glitter, and his smile into grime. Please let him be soft. It's almost like he came into the world with the self destruct button plastered on his back. Please let him be happy, because it's quite unbearable to see him sit there emotionless, when she can feel his heartbeat ringing through her ear.
"Rona?" He said
"Huh?"
"You're staring" he smiled
"No—I...I...I" she blushed
"I missed you" he filled in. It caught her off guard. It made her more red then she was before. It was so unlike him to say exactly what he was feeling. "Those 27 hours I haven't seen you, I missed you"
He kept count? Why has he kept count?
"I wasn't avoiding you, Jace was just—"
"It doesn't matter" he cut her off. A smirked appeared on his face, meaning he was planing something. "What we are about to do next matters"
"What's that?" She asked
"We are about to ask the next door neighbor if their refrigerator is running" he leered
Author's Note
Guys I am so sorry I haven't posted in a while. I have to apply to colleges and it's pretty annoying and takes all of my time.
I know this chapter wasn't that good but I promise the next one will be uploaded soon, and that one is going to be great (I hope).
