"Mitch! Oh, my God! Did he ask you?! Give me all the details now." Scott winced at her happy tone, knowing she was probably going to be pretty upset after this phone call.
"Hi, Kirst."
"Scott? Where's Mitch?" She sounded shocked to be hearing Scott on Mitch's phone. It dawned on him that maybe she didn't even know they were talking again. When was the last time Mitch actually talked to her?
"He's fine, just a little busy."
"Oh...Um... So, what's up?" She was obviously feeling awkward, maybe even a little embarrassed.
"When was the last time you talked to Mitch?"
"A little over a week ago, I called him. Then about 4 days after that I got a text from him saying he was in Texas. That's it."
"Right, well. You were right about Beau proposing to him, but your timing was a little off." He looked up at Nel who had a surprised expression on her face. "He flew back to L.A. last Thursday and Friday night he called me really late. He said that Beau had asked him to marry him and asked me what I thought he should answer," Scott stopped there, not really wanting to continue.
"What did you tell him?" He cringed at the inevitable question.
"I told him no."
"Scott! Why would you say that? He always listens to you and Beau makes him so happy. He really loves him." Scott closed his eyes at that answer. Nel reached over and placed a hand on his arm. He opened his eyes to a warm smile and an understanding expression.
"I don't want him to marry Beau."
"Oh?" Kirstie paused. "Ohhh... Um... What did Mitch say to that?"
"He told me he wouldn't marry him. The next day he shows up back here without telling me and was obviously crying and we talked about it. He and Beau didn't talk at all. Mitch just wrote a note and left. He uh... he said that he would've said yes if he didn't come see me last week and that it was the same reason he was never in a relationship when we lived together. Not really sure what that means, cause we both dated people, but I didn't ask questions."
"Of course he said no." Kirstie wasn't mad anymore, just speaking as if she was stating a fact.
"Kirst? Care to explain?"
"No." She knew something that Scott didn't quite grasp apparently.
"Oh... Okay. We um, went to the bleachers tonight." He was hoping she would understand what he meant by that. He didn't really think through having Nel listen in to this conversation considering he was kissing her son not even an hour ago.
"Oh, my God. Y'all Kissed?! She screamed and he looked up at Nel. She looked confused. "What was it like? Was it hot? Who am I kidding of course it was. Oh, my God! Who Kiss-"
"Kirst!" Scott interrupted her. "Stop talking, please." He was sure his face was so red now. Maybe Kirst should know Nel was listening in. Nel apparently thought the same cause she moved her face closer to the phone.
"Hi, Kirstie. This is Nel." There was a beat of silence.
"Hi, Nel. Sorry about that. Didn't know you were here." Kirstie let out a nervous laugh.
"That's alright." Nel looked up at Scott. "So, who kissed who?" Scott's jaw dropped, not expecting to hear that from Mitch's mom. He heard a giggle from the phone.
