It was decided that we would act normally at dinner the next night. Then have Eli go over some things with Father. Once father said the magic word we would charge out and fight him and finish this once and for all. So the next night, Elizabeth, Else, and Ron all went to their places. Father went to his chamber to get ready. As I pinned up my hair in a dinner ready way, Gin came up behind me.

“I thought you went to the stables.” I said teasingly. Gin only smirked and kissed my neck. Closing my eyes, I took in the warmth of his lips.

“Don’t do this.” Gin whispered into my ear.

“I have to” I said “You know that” Gin turned my chair around and put his face closer to mine.

“You’ll get hurt.” He said. I saw the worry in his eyes.

“I might but it’s the only way to stop your brother.” I sighed. “Remember that night when I got attacked?” Gin eyes went round.

“Eli” he whispered. I nodded when there was a knock at my door. I answered it to find my mother on the floor with a sword sticking out of her chest. I screamed as I ran towards her. Robbie and John came out of their chambers and rushed towards me. Robbie and Gin pulled me off the floor. Gin wrapped his arms around me and held me tight.

“Her clothes.” Robbie said “This happened after her afternoon ride.” Indeed he was right. As I turned around to find Mother in her favorite riding outfit, the one I made her. Then I looked at her boots. “No” I said as I knelt down. “The ground around the stables is mud city. If she went riding then was killed.” My voice choked at that part. I swallowed and went on “There would be mud on her boots. These are spotless.” John nodded. Father reached us by then. I saw the light go away from his eyes. “Emma” he whispered as he knelt beside her. I looked into my Mother’s glassy eyes. I closed them.
