Taking care of business

A few days later, we held my mother’s funeral. Her burial spot was going to be where she said yes to Father’s marriage proposal. Almost all of my siblings were there. One of my older siblings, Alice, stood beside me and took my hand. I let go of hers and stepped towards the tombstone. I laid down a rose (those were her favorite) and said

“She was the best mother anyone could have.” I got up and walked back into the castle. I took a few turns until I found the chamber door of where her and Father used to sleep. Father had moved into a different chamber. I opened up her closet.

“I thought you might be here.” Gin said as he came in.

“Someone needs to go through her things and I seem to be the only one ready for it.” I said as I pulled out a gown.

“Alice will like this.” I said “Green is her favorite color.” Gin nodded.

Everyone was sulking in the dining room when I walked in.

“I know we all are in grief of Mother’s death. So I have sorted through Mother’s things according to her will. Everything will be in your rooms.” I announced as I sat down by Father. Everyone nodded. They knew I was the one to take charge in times of grief and chaos. Father put his hand on top of mine and smiled. I gave a fake one back. I looked to the door to find Eli helping Else serve dinner. Hatred flooded within me. I had the sword in my chamber behind the painting. As soon as I could prove that Eli killed my mother, he was so dead. One by one, we all left the table. I was the last. I went passed the old chamber when I heard sobs. I went in to find Father on the bed, crying his eyes out.

“Father” I said as I knelled down beside him.

“I…I…saw that you had nothing to remind you of your mother. So I came in here to make sure you had something.” Father said as he took my hand and grasped it hard.

“If you want me to have something, I’ll look.” I said as I got up. I opened up the closet to find a lot of gowns hiding in some old dark colored boxes way in the back. They needed some work but I could deal with it. Father came up behind me and put a hand on my shoulder.

“She wore these when she met me.” He said “She was your size.” I nodded and grabbed the one in front of me.
