That night, I went to my chamber and found a stack of boxes on my desk. I opened them to find some of grandmother’s things.
“I took the liberty of packing.” Gin said as he walked in.
“Gin” I said “You know you have the big race tomorrow. You should be resting.” Gin shook his head.
“I can’t sleep.” He said “Not after you just woke up. Open up the last one.” Gin was pointing at the box on the floor. I opened it to find all of Grandmother’s necklaces.
“Gin” I said speechless. Gin only smiled.
The next day was the big race. I helped Gin set up Chesnutt. He was really nervous.
“Gin” I said “You’ll do fine. Don’t worry.” I hoped that would cheer him up. He only nodded. I walked to the end of the track where Ashley and the rest of the judges were waiting. Ashley had gotten so big. We talked for a while, and then she saw the scar on my head. I saw worry fill her eyes. I assured her that I was fine. Then the race began. I began to silently cheer for Gin as he zoomed around the corners. Then there was a wipeout. I looked up to find that it was Daniel. I grasped Ashley’s hand. I saw her face fill with fear. Daniel got up and waved to us. Ashley and I sighed with relief. Then I heard cheering as the racers reached the final track. Happiness filled up within as Gin crossed the finish line first. The judges and I calculated the scores and Gin won. After that we went to the victory party. I took off my judge’s sash and went over to Gin.
“Congratulation.” I said.
Gin picked me up and swung me around saying “I did it! I did it!” I laughed.
