Mattias broke into my thoughts.
"You ready to climb up to the top? We can't stay here stuck to the side of the train forever!"I laughed.
"Sure! How do you get up?"
Mattias told me to hang on to the window ledge, then he swung out and up onto the roof, reaching down a hand to pull me up.
"Hang on!"
I grabbed his hand. I promptly found myself swung up, and landed next to Mattias on the roof.
"Got your balance? Good......Let's sit on the edge!" said Mattias with boyish excitement, and he walked to the end and sat down with his legs hanging off the edge of the roof. I came over and sat down next to him.
Mattias grinned at me and looked up.
"Look at the sky!!!" he said to me, "Isn't it awesome? See all the stars twinkling....and there's a full moon!"
He slipped his arm around my shoulders, and I sighed. It was so good to be with him, sitting quietly in the moonlight.
"Look! There's Orion, the hunter, and Sirius!" exclaimed Mattias suddenly.
"Where?" I asked, looking at the thousands of little stars.
"There!"
"....Where?"
"Over there!"
"....I can't see it...."
"Look, I'll show you."
Mattias pulled me closer and pointed at a very bright star.
"See? Isn't it beautiful?"
I nodded, unwilling to break the silence. Side by side, we watched it as it twinkled, a pinpoint of light in the sky. I let my head rest on his shoulder, and felt his arm encircling my waist; tighter and tighter.......
Then I felt the wind the wind rushing past my face and suddenly remembered that we were still on the train. I lifted my head and looked around....and just like that, the spell was broken.
Mattias's hand went back to his lap, and he got up.
"Soo....what shall we do now?" he asked, and I got up too.
"I don't know - what other fun things are there to do?"
He thought for a minute.
"I know! I'll show you my favourite place.....that means we'll have to jump off onto that big tree coming up. You ready?"
I grinned and nodded again.
The big tree was coming up fast now. Mattias stood poised on the edge, ready to jump onto the first branch that came past.
The tree was rushing towards us......."Now!" called Mattias, and jumped.
I saw him grab onto a branch as the tree rushed past. The leaves kept hitting me in the face, and I couldn't see, but I jumped anyway. My flailing arms caught hold of a branch, and I was left dangling in the air as the train raced away.
With a violent kick, I pulled myself into a chin-up and got my arms over the branch. By swinging sideways, I kicked my legs up so I was sitting sideways.
I looked for Mattias and found him about 8m away, precariously perched on a branch.
He had already seen me, and began leaping from one branch to another, making his way down towards me.
"Are we getting down?" I asked, as he landed on my branch.
"Sure - Beat you to the bottom!"
He scrambled along to the main trunk and began climbing down quickly. I grinned, got up and balanced to the other end. Then, bending down suddenly, I swung myself off the tip of the branch, landing neatly on the ground in a parkor roll, like a ninja.
I stood up and brushed off my good blue batwing top, looking back up at him.
"Beat you!"
He was still a meter or so from the ground, but when he saw me, he decided to jump.
Mattias landed on his feet and shook his head.
"Ah, alright...... You win."
I laughed at his comical expression.
"Are you gonna show me your favorite place?" I questioned him.
He nodded.
"Yeah, just follow me!" he called and ran off.
A/N: I just love this part.....the stars and the game of the race down the tree. Stars are the best - in fact, they're the biggest thing I miss seeing in the city now. The second biggest thing that I miss is weather and the mountains......and then the natural open spaces ;)
Anyway, on to the next chapter......so long, peoples!!!
