The Waterfall

He splashed noisily out onto the bank, waiting for me to get there. Then he grabbed my hand and pulled me upstream, past the secret entrance. The bank we were walking on got narrower and narrower, the steep sides of the cliffs closing us in, until the far bank disappeared. Our bank became just a narrow ledge, only just wide enough for one person to easily walk on. Just as we came round a corner, I saw it - it was at the end of the valley, where the cliffs came together.

A magnificent waterfall came tumbling over the side, falling into a deep blue pool of water and sending up a fine silver spray. I stopped and stared, astounded. The water flowed straight down over the rocks in a magical sparkling curtain, and I even saw a rainbow in the glittering mist.

Speechless, I turned to Matthias, my eyes sparkling.

"Wow!" I breathed, "Can we swim in it?!!!"

Mattias grinned proudly, and thought for a moment.

"Okay - let's go!!!"

I was so pleased that I hugged him. When I stepped back, he looked surprised......I grinned at him and dove straight in off the edge, and he followed.

When we surfaced, I began giggling.

"What if we can get behind the waterfall?" I asked, "Wouldn't that be fun?!"

Mattias laughed, and told me, "Well.....there is a space behind them - not quite a cave, but you can stand behind the waterfall."

My eyes widened.

"Really?!!! - Can you show me?!!"

Mattias began to chuckle.

"....You don't mind if it's a bit tight on space?..."

His eyes began to look mischievous, but I didn't really notice - I was too excited about seeing the space behind the waterfall.
"No, no - I don't mind at all!" I assured him, and he glanced sideways at me.

"Well, okay....come on, then."

We swam towards the waterfall. Mattias turned to me.

"You go first - just dive under here, and you'll pop up in the hidey hole. I'll come after." I did as he said.

The "hidey hole" was perfect - just a shallow depression in the rocks that allowed you to stand behind the waterfall and look through it.......sort of.

I couldn't see Mattias.........suddenly, his head appeared at my feet! I squealed, and jumped backwards, my hand on my chest.

"Oh! - Mattias! You scared me!"

He grinned, then stood up........and now I understood why he'd said it was a "tight fit" earlier. I took a step backwards....and bumped into the rock behind me.

.....this was awkward - Mattias was really close.

I took a deep breath.

"Um....Mattias?.....you were right - uh, about this being a tight place......"

Mattias chuckled, and my heart began fluttering wildly in my chest, as I felt his arms around my waist.

"Yes...but I remember you saying you didn't mind....." he said, with a sly grin.

I blushed deeply, and he chuckled again.

"I - I-I didn't realise what you meant.....Uh....could we just, er, st-" I began, but Mattias interrupted me.

"Liza.....You're still jumpy. Relax-"

"....You think??!!!!"

I made sure I was still looking firmly at the ground - I didn't want him to do that eyes trick on me again.......

Sorry Liz, but it's too late to try and get away now.......you totally just walked right into that, though - you should've known to be careful when Matt told you about the lack of space!!!
