Natural Disasters

Cyclones, hurricanes, typhoons

Marias, Joses, Irmas

However one refers to them

Still the same dangerous perils

Countries have to prepare

Their citizens mentally for losing their homes

Or having to live without electricity for months

Just because of drastic temperature changes above the Atlantic

Maybe because of global warming

Maybe because the Sun is closer

The reason is not that important

Once people lose their properties

And become internal refugees

People should be helping each other

Flying in resources

Sending in forces

But some countries

They just stand back and watch

Even if it's their population in danger

Cyclone Burma

Hurricane Katrina

We need less of these in history

More of the responses

Like in L'Aquila

2009

An earthquake rocked the city

Destroying the history

That had stood there for centuries

But the Italians didn't hesitate for a second

Distributing free cellphones

Setting up tent camps

Redirecting all mail to the temporary homes

Having an emergency response so quick

They became a case study for a geography class

On what a country is supposed to do after such a natural disaster
