A Favorite Memory

A plane ride to a land long missed

From one great country to another

To a land burning in summer day

But freezing in winter night

Ambushed in hugs by people not seen

Gifts traded back and for but

Somehow I get more than I give

My father and I have been here before

Same time of year, same people, same place

But do something different

This one is the best so far for me

Because I was old enough to enjoy and remember what happened

One day, we decide to go to Cape Town

Just my father and me

Letting my grandmother rest for a week

Once we get there

My dad and I continue the tradition of

Climbing Table Mountain

The tall mountain with a flat top

With the clouds looking like the table cloth

Covering a beautiful antique

But the transportation is closed

The gondolas are being worked on once again

But we still want to reach the top

Where the shops filled

Where memories of happiness are waiting

We hire a guide

A very nice woman I am in contact with to this day

And we climb three hours up

We are not the only group

But we are one of few

I am compared to a billy goat

As I jump from step to step

I have to slow down

Overall

It is cloudy and cold due to the height

But I enjoy it as memories come back

Of the very first time I came here

And met the friendly penguins

Who waddled towards me

Llifted their wings in hello

This is just becoming a memory in a memory

But they are the only memories I will have

I can't make any new ones

Not since May 6th, 2017

The ones with family

The ones where I travelled to see them

These will forever be my favourite memories
