"Scott," 14 year old Mitch said impatiently. He'd been trying to get his best friend's attention for a long time. They were in Scott's living room, sitting on the floor. Scott had invited Mitch over after school, but he couldn't get off his laptop.
Mitch reached forward and flicked Scott's forehead. He had something he desperately had to say to him, but he desired Scott's full attention.
"Ow! What is it?!" 15 year old Scott snapped, looking up from his laptop.
"Stop being a little bitch and listen to me!" Mitch whined. Scott rolled his eyes but clicked something on his mouse pad, shutting the laptop and setting it aside.
"Ok, what is it?" Scott asked, not looking interested at all. Mitch stared at his best friend of 4 years with regret. He hated making Scott mad. He was only one year younger than him, but he was always determined to prove to Scott that he was mature. He didn't seem to be doing a good job.
"I'm sorry Scott. I won't bother you anymore," Mitch sighed, turning towards his papers. He picked up his World History book and flipped to the required page number, not meeting Scott's eyes.
Scott sighed and grabbed Mitch's papers out of his hands. "Hey. I'm sorry, alright? I know I should have paid attention to you right away, but you know how Mr. Henderson is. The essay is due tomorrow, and I'm barely done," Scott said, staring into Mitch's eyes. Mitch bit his lip, unsure of what to say next.
"I know. I'm sorry. There's something I really need to tell you- and- I don't know if it can wait," Mitch said, dropping his gaze.
Mitch had been preparing for 2 weeks to tell Scott this, and he felt ready. He was going to tell Scott. He felt completely ready.
"What is it? You know you can tell me anything, right?" Scott said, staring right into Mitch's eyes.
Mitch took a deep breath. I can do this. I need to do this, Mitch thought.
"Scott.. I think.. I think I'm gay. I've been thinking about it for a while now, and I think I like boys. Don't hate me.." Mitch said, tearing his gaze away from Scott and looked away, scared to meet Scott's eyes.
Scott took a deep breath and suddenly, he smiled widely. He reached forward, clasping Mitch's hand in his own.
"That doesn't change who you are. In fact, that helps me with what I've been meaning to tell you. Mitch, I'm gay as well. We can be gay together!" Scott exclaimed.
That's just like Scott. Making the situation better. One of the many things I love about him... Mitch thought, staring happily at Scott.
"Wow. How long have you known?" Mitch asked, genuinely curious. Scott smiled and blushed.
"I've known for a long time now. I never said anything because I was too scared. My mom and dad are the only people that know," Scott said.
They were looking into each other's eyes, and they knew they had a special connection. They were sharing something with each other. Something that they had in common.
A surge of courage suddenly took over Mitch, and he bit his lip. He leaned forward and closed his eyes shyly. Cautiously, he pressed his lips to Scott's. This was his first genuine kiss, with someone he had true feeling for. The first ever one had been a small peck, with a girl, in 1st grade.
Mitch let his lips linger on Scott's, marveling at how soft they were. Scott began moving his lips against Mitch's, and Mitch sighed softly at the unknown feeling. He kissed back, and all his past worries were erased. His nose didn't bump into Scott's. He didn't spit everywhere, and, thankfully, his breath didn't stink.
Scott slowly pulled Mitch's bottom lip in between his teeth and that was when Mitch tried to pull back. He pulled his hands back from around Scott's neck and tried to break his mouth away from Scott's. Scott let Mitch pull away, but he leaned forward and hugged Mitch tightly around his waist. He rested his head on Mitch's shoulder.
"I'm sorry Scott. I'm not ready," Mitch said, ashamed. He felt pathetic, and he knew Scott thought that too.
"Don't worry about it," Scott soothed. "I won't ever pressure you into anything. But I think I might have to pressure you into agreeing to be my boyfriend."
Mitch pulled back and rested his nose on Scott's. "I don't know, I can't handle pressure very well," Mitch joked. Scott laughed and kissed Mitch's cheek.
Before Scott could say anything else, Mitch spoke up. "Yes Scott. I will be your boyfriend," He said.
"What are we gonna do about next year? We're gonna be in high school. Together," Scott said.
"I don't know, but what I do know is that I'll be happy to get out of middle school already. Aren't you gonna feel weird about dating a freshman?" Mitch teased, snuggling into Scott's arms.
"I'll never let anyone judge me for what I do. If anything, I'll show you off proudly. And you'll be cool, dating an upperclassman," Scott said, looking down at Mitch.
Mitch laughed. He didn't care about being cool. He had the best boyfriend ever, what more could he want?
"It's not that cool. I mean you're only going to be a sophomore. I don't know, maybe if you were a senior.." Mitch teased. Scott scowled.
He began tickling Mitch's sides, smiling brightly when Mitch began giggling.
"I mea, I could just leave, if you really want to date a senior, I could just leave. You've got the looks for it. With that handsomeness, you could woo anybody," Scott exclaimed. He stopped tickling Mitch to give him a chance to breathe. Mitch shook his head, catching his breath.
"I wouldn't want anyone else," He said fondly, leaning in for another kiss.
