I forgot to say this is dedicated to grassihoying :)

A beautiful relationship had formed between the two hospitalized men. They were close friends, and it was an unspoken agreement that they were attracted to each other. The other patients in the ward knew it, and even the nurses were obvious to the fact. When Mitch had to be inspected, Scott would hold his hand through the curtain. When the doctors probed and treated Scott's toe (which was apparently worsening) Mitch would hold Scott's hand.

"You know, it's a weird coincidence that you befriend the only other person in here that requires minor surgery," Dr. Kyle said to Scott as he passed by Scott's bed. Scott smiled over at Mitch who was fixing his hair with some product his friend Kirstie had brought him.

"He caught my attention. I like him," Scott said, glancing at Mitch. Mitch's cheeks went slightly pink and he smiled, looking down.

"I like you too, Hoying," Mitch said.

The doctor only shook his head but smiled at the special connection between the two young men.

"Hey Scott?" Mitch whispered, reaching his hand out to the other man. The red clock on the table between them read the numbers 1:37 am. It was really late, and everyone in the ward was asleep. But Mitch knew Scott, and neither of them fell asleep without each other. It was a given.

"Yeah?" Scott asked, being very quiet. The man next to him was a light sleeper, and he had on multiple occasions shushed them in the early hours of the morning and late hours of the night.

"Hold my hand," Mitch murmured. Scott reached out and grabbed Mitch's hand in his own, and their hands lay entwined floating in the air between the two beds. Mitch's hand fit perfectly into Scott's. They lay there in silence for a few moments before Scott decided to speak up.

"While you were in the bathroom yesterday," He whispered. "The doctor said I might be able to get out of the hospital as soon as Friday if my toe keeps getting better as well as it is now."

"Don't leave me," Mitch murmured sleepily.

"I won't. I'll visit you every day. And after you get out of the hospital too... we'll see where things go from there," Scott said. Mitch felt more awake now.

"Scott, do you really like me? Do you.. well, like-like me?" Mitch asked, and his heart started beating a bit faster in anticipation.

Not one second later, Scott squeezed his hand. "Yes. I do. I hope you feel the same way," He replied.

Before Mitch was able to reply, another voice interrupted them.

"Can you two wait until morning to confess your love?!" The voice hissed in the darkness. It was Mr. Smick, the middle aged man to the right of Mitch who had a bad back and a bad temper.

Mitch and Scott could only giggle before going to sleep, their hands still entwined.

Scott kept his promise. Every day, he visited Mitch after being discharged with an ointment and a few checkups scheduled. Mitch, on the other hand, was not so lucky. The area had randomly started to swell, meaning his surgery would be delayed, but Mitch didn't mind. He had Scott to keep him company. Scott entertained him and talked to him for hours and hours, and finally at closing time every day, he would leave with a smile on his face and having promised Mitch to come back the very next day.

He always kept his promise.

Finally, after a succesful minor surgery, Mitch was discharged. The second they exited the hospital, Scott swept Mitch into his arms and asked him to be his boyfriend.

Mitch said yes.
