And thank you guys so much for 8.3k reads!! That's crazy!
"Kirstie, can I crash here tonight?" Mitch asked as soon as Kirstie opened the door. She nodded and moved out of the way, gesturing for him to come in. Mitch set his stuff down on her couch and sat down, rubbing his face with his hands. Kirstie walked over to him and sat next to him, placing her arm arouund his shoulders.
"Wanna talk about it?" She asked quietly. Mitch looked at her, then hesitated. He nodded.
"Remember what we talked about? A long time ago? It was so long ago you probably don't. When I first started dating Travis?" Mitch began, swallowing nervously. Kirstie's eyebrows furrowed in thought for a few seconds, but then it hit her.
"About how you wished it was Scott you were dating and not Travis?" She asked, and Mitch nodded slowly. "And then I told you to get over him, and you said you didn't think that was possible. Of course I remember."
Mitch rubbed his eyes. "Yeah. I thought he would never love me back. So then I tried, I really, really tried to give my relationship with Travis everything I had. But I never got over him. I still love him," Mitch whispered.
Kirstie still didn't understand- this wasn't news to her. It was incredibly easier for her too see that, so she still had no idea as to why Mitch was here. Had something awful happened?
"Honey, I still don't get it. What happened?" Kirstie asked. Mitch took a deep breath.
"Scott- Scott told me he loves me," Mitch said, dropping his face into his hands. Kirstie opened her mouth to speak, but Mitch held up a finger, willing her to let him continue talking. "But then I ran out. He thinks I'm mad at him for saying that, and I'm not! I'm relieved, I'm ecstatic. But Travis. I think- it's just- he's so nice to me. And I liked Travis first, back in high school. You know how much I loved him, but then he moved. Now he's here, and we're dating, but.." Mitch trailed off, unable to continue speaking.
Kirstie sat there, thinking. "Close your eyes sweetie," She said, and Mitch looked at her questioningly, but did so anyway. "You wake up, the birds are chirping, the sun is shining through your bedroom window. The window is open and the morning breeze of spring after light showers the night before can be smelled in the air. Everything is peaceful and perfect. There's an arm around your bare stomach. You turn to the person who's laying on the pillow next to you. Who is it?" She asked.
-
"I can't do anything right. I'm a fuck up. I'm an idiot. I just lost my best friend!" Scott yelled into the phone. On the other end of the line, was Kevin. And Avi was there too.
"Dude, calm down. Take a deep breath. What makes you think you lost him? Maybe he just needed some time to think," Kevin asked, and Scott was quiet for a few moments.
"He ran out of here! He didn't handle it well, I guess it could've been worse, but he probably hate-"
"You of all people should know how Mitch is. Did you expect him to sit there and just discuss it? He's a drama queen, we all know that. Bro, he needs some space. You kinda just sprung that on him, telling him you love him and all," Kevin said, and Scott could see that he was right.
"Thanks Kev. What do you think I should do?" He asked.
"Go after him. Show him you don't want to lose him, and that your feelings for him won't waver the friendship you two have," Kevin said. Scott smiled.
"Alright, I will. Thank you so much," Scott said.
"No problem," Kevin replied, and the line went dead. Scott stood up and ran to the door, putting on his shoes. He needed to go find the man he loved.
-
Scott sped up his pace, still in a hurry to reach Kirstie's house. Kevin had told him that Mitch wasn't at his house, so the only possibilities were Kirstie's house and Travis's house.
He absolutely did not want to go to Travis's house.
He was hurrying down the street, mentally cursing himself for not filling up his gas tank. I'll never procrastinate ever again, He promised himself. He shook his head, already knowing that was a lie.
After walking for what seemed like forever, he reached Kirstie's apartment building. He opened the door and was ready to race up the stairs, when Mitch came running down the stairs. Mitch crashed into him and they both fell down, Mitch on top of Scott.
"Scott.. you came back to me," Mitch whispered.
"i'd never leave you, muffin," Scott said. Mitch smiled sadly.
"I'm sorry I ran out like that. I panicked, and-"
"No, I'm sorry for bringing it up so suddenly. If you don't feel the same way, that's okay, because I'd wait an eternity for you, Mitch Grassi," Scott said, sitting up. He pulled Mitch up with him, and they were sitting on the floor, facing each other.
"You- you think I don't feel the same way? Scott, I love you. I was lying to myself while I was with Travis, and Kirstie helped me realize that. You're everything I could ever want," Mitch said, staring into Scott's blue eyes to prove that he wasn't lying. Tears of joy sprung to Scott's eyes.
"You really feel that way?" He asked.
"I do," Mitch said.
And those are the exact two words Mitch uttered at their wedding 3 years later.
