I wake in a cold sweat with my shirt sticking to my back. She had been there. I had heard her. I had felt Rey for months. I knew she was out there, and I knew of our connection.
I could remember Luke telling me about a bond like this in ancient Jedi texts. It was the Force binding us together. Somehow our fates were intertwined, and now she was more important then ever.
But how could I get her to listen to a monster like me? I had seen it in our vision the way she shied away from my touch. The way her eyes watched my every move as if I was a cobra about to strike. It had hurt me before, but it was killing me now.
I knew I couldn't hide for much longer. I knew how I felt about her, and I knew she felt the same way. It's why I had asked for her help, because I knew she would come.
I swing my legs over the side of my bed trying to push the thought of her out of my mind. I had to get to the First Order Base on Endor. We had established an outpost on the planet a few years ago. The Ewoks inhabiting the planet were nearly wiped out by then, so it left the old Empire base open for the taking.
News had gotten out that the Resistance was planning an attack on the base. There was vital information there on Snoke's locations, and with as important of a mission it would be for them I knew Rey would be there.
I would get another chance to see her, I think. After our battle I couldn't get the scavenger out of my head. She was had such potential, and I knew she could easily surpass me.
But it wasn't just her power that drew me to her. I remember training with Luke and seeing her watching from nearby. I remember the determination in her eyes at Maz Kanata's. She was fearless during our battle, and the more I thought of her the more I realized just how beautiful she was.
I need to pull myself together. Rey was getting in my head. She was making me weak. These days I had felt the pull to the light more than ever. I had tried asking my grandfather for help and to show me the way, but nothing was helping.
I sighed and put on my suit and got ready to board the ship leaving for Endor. I looked at the clock I had hung on the wall earlier that weak. I groan as I realize the ship is supposed to be leaving in twenty minutes. No time for a shower then.
As soon as I find my suit and saber I am out the door within minutes. Hux is pacing the ship when I arrive.
"Where the hell were you?" He snaps a sneer pulling at his face.
"Sleeping," I reply in a bored tone as I go to push past him.
He pushes me back in front of him. "You need to get it together. Supreme Leader Snoke has already been asking me why you haven't done anything the last three months. Whatever is going on with you needs to stop," he growls in a low tone so only I can hear him. He then steps aside to let me pass as if nothing had happened.
I knew Hux meant well. As much as we have fought in the time we've been together, he had tried to help me in his own way. That's where we were similar. Both of us had no idea how to show our feelings without blowing a hole in something.
I walked to my own private quarters on the ship to get ready for Endor. If we were right about this, then there would be a battle even bigger than the one on Starkiller Base. Plus they the Resistance had Rey now, and not even our best soldiers could stand a chance against her.
In a few hours the surface of the planet could be seen from the ships windows. The Resistance wasn't there yet, which meant if we could get our troops into the base before they arrived we could get the jump on them.
After a while our main ship touched down on an old landing pad in the middle of the overgrown forest. I stepped out with Hux following behind me.
"I assume Phasma is already here," I ask the him.
"Yes, she has her own squadron of troopers in another outpost deeper in the forests," he replies continuing to march ahead.
"Get her to bring them to the main base," I command.
"We will have no one at the second outpost. It will be overrun in minutes," he argues anger evident in his voice.
I turn on the heel of my foot and stop inches from his face. "The outpost does not hold the Order's secrets. I will not ask you again General," I snarl frustrated with him already.
He stares at me for a few seconds before simply nodding and conveying the message to another stormtrooper. The soldier takes off ahead of us eager to prove himself. I frown at his fleeting frame knowing that these days with the Resistance breathing down our necks higher officers don't often promote the common soldiers. There is the same mindset the Empire had within our ranks. It is the exact reason the First Order is failing now. People only care about themselves.
I'm guilty of it myself I suppose. I mean that's why I'm here isn't it? I only came because I'm selfish enough to risk everything for some scavenger that had defeated me. Even Snoke had begun to notice my new distaste for the Order. I used to be so dedicated to it, and I felt like it was the only place I had truly belonged. Then in the vision from before, when I was there with Rey, I had felt... at ease. I know I shouldn't have. She is still my enemy, but it felt as if I was her puppet and she was the one pulling the strings. I had no power over my feelings any more. For the first time I was powerless.
A X-Wing flying overhead breaks my train of thoughts. There goes our surprise attack. I look up and see several large freighters landing to the west of us. Suddenly I feel a strong pull towards that direction, and that's when I know she is here. She is close by somewhere on the planet.
"Hux take half the soldiers to headquarters, the other half follow me. We're going to hold them of for as long as we can," I order looking at the crowd of about 100 stormtroopers. Hux nods and takes about 50 troopers, and the rest get in formation behind me. This was it.
We move quickly to avoid them getting to far ahead of us. We had to give the others time to prepare themselves, and even start to extract the most important files. The dense woods make it hard for the troopers to follow, but I can easily cut my way through vines by slashing them with my saber. The pull grows stronger, and I know we have almost reached them. There is no doubt that Rey can also feel the connection which spells trouble for us. She might already know where we are.
As if she had heard my thoughts gunfire erupts from just ahead. The troopers duck behind the thick tree trunks. I choose to deflect the red lasers back in the direction of the Resistance soldiers. I move forward meeting the first group of them. I easily cut them down, and the troopers start to attempt to take out other groups of the soldiers. Slowly my own numbers start to dwindle as waves of Resistance soldiers continue to emerge from the trees. Even I have not been able to advance due to their numbers.
Then a group of more stormtroopers emerge from the trees to the right of me. We easily outrank them and begin to take out most of the troops. As soon as the remaining soldiers retreat back from the direction they came I hear the sound of a lightsaber activating behind me. I freeze already knowing what's behind me. I turn slowly.
Rey stands there a massive group of Resistance soldiers behind her. Her face reveals no emotions. I sigh readying myself for the oncoming battle. I have a bad feeling about this.
