Crazy night, and then crazy dreams afterward. Bed spins had kept her awake until two. Then the dreams came.
First the bad one, about a rodeo. A cowboy lassoed her with a lariat and then branded her on the rear. The branding iron left a tattoo on her backside, but she couldn't remember what the image was. Something scary; she remembered that.
She'd awoken and had to run to the bathroom to throw up. It took another half hour to fall asleep again.
But then she'd had a good dream.
A sexy music producer listened to her sing karaoke and gave her a ride home in his limo. He said something about a demo, but she couldn't remember what.
It was one of those dreams about feelings more than anything interesting happening. But the feelings were awesome.
He'd been so good looking, and loved her singing. No one ever told her they liked her singing before.
Maybe her mom. A few people in the church choir.
And Keiko, of course, but Keiko always said sweet things to people.
Actually, Keiko and Tiff were both pretty nice. She could've wound up with awful roommates. A lot of the other students complained about theirs.
"Ashanté?" the professor said. "Are you listening? You really should be taking notes. There's going to be a test on this."
Huh?
"Oh, yes." She came out of her stupor and fumbled through her purse for a pen.
It was then that she found the business card the suit had given her last night.
