It took longer than ten minutes to reach Ashanté's place, and Bryce worried that if he caught one more red light she'd leave the apartment to find a liquor store that wouldn't card her.

His fears grew when he saw how she was dressed. Although her clothes were casual, she looked dressed up compared to earlier today.

Must be planning to meet with her dealer later.

Funny, he'd never noticed before how her jeans hung on her hips so seductively, and how the swell of her breasts filled out her shirt just so. She wore a crop top that revealed an inch or so of midriff, and he wondered just what kind of noises she'd make if he spent the night planting butterfly kisses across her chest.

A moment later he slapped his own face.

"Ha! Why'd you do that?"

Bryce pulled his keys from his pocket. "It's what your parents would do to me if they were here right now. My thoughts when I look at that shirt are surely criminal."

Ashanté laughed, watching him toss the keys in his hand.

He'd have to keep her busy elsewhere ─ somewhere her dealer would never think to look for her.

"Have you eaten yet?" he asked.

"No. Want to order a pizza?"

"I have a better idea. Do you like Polish food?"

"No idea. I've never had it before."

"Then let me take you to one of my favorite spots. It's casual, but nice, and the food's awesome."

"Okay!"

She grabbed her purse and he escorted her to the Jeep, helping her up into the seat.

"I can put the top on if it's too windy," he said.

"No, it'll be fine. It's warm tonight anyhow. Is this your car?"

He nodded, and started the engine. "Now you know why I take the limo whenever I can."

"I think it's cute! I've always loved Wranglers."

"I'll buy you one if you keep off the drugs and booze for a month."

She grew quiet as he pulled away from the curb, and they headed out of town toward the Polish restaurant across the county line. It was growing dark now and the headlights of the cars behind him prevented recognition of makes and models.

He never noticed, therefore, the familiar Lexus driven by Jolene Champerty only a few car lengths behind them.
