I stood nervously in my room and picked up my bag from my desk. taking a deep breath, I went out of my room and walked down the stairs. It was still a little early. I started coffee and drummed my fingers anxiously on the breakfast island. When the coffee was ready, I poured some into my coffee thermos and grabbed a piece of pop tart from the pantry. I walked out of the house to school.
When I reached the school half an hour later, I made a beeline towards my locker. It was early, but the hallway was already crowded. I put away the books that I won't need and turned to walk to my homeroom when I caught sight of Wes. My breath hitched. He was walking to his locker with a few guys from the popular crowd. Guys who once joked that I should get raped to be scared straight. Wes did not even glance at me. I gritted my teeth, feeling hurt at his dismissal. What happened to being friends??
Well, I shouldn't be surprised. He's an ass for almost 18 years. Why would 1 summer change him? I wanted to walk off when an arm snaked around my shoulder. I looked over my shoulder and was glad to see Matt's gorgeous face.
"Hey, babe. Good morning!" Matt said as he walked beside me, his arm around my shoulder. I smiled as I put my arm around his waist playfully
"Hey, handsome. Good morning to you, too. What are you having for 1st period? I got Bio." I asked as Frankie caught up with us.
"Err.. Hmm, hey same!" Matt said after he had glanced at his schedule.
"I thought you had Physics?" I asked.
"He had to change it." Frankie said absently.
"I did it for you, babe!" Matt said as he squeezed me by the shoulder.
"Puh-leez, he was driving Mr Rhodes crazy and didn't do well on the pop quiz. Turns out he'd never taken Physics before and forgot to tell the school. So they changed it to Bio." Frankie explained as he rolled his eyes. I chuckled. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Wes looking my way. He's looking at Matt, too. Frowning like nobody's business. I glared at him and just said in a sing-song voice.
"Well, good! You'll keep me company. Let's go, we'll be late. You wanna sit together?" I asked as we walked arm in arm to Biology class.
"It would be my pleasure schnookums." Matt said in a baby voice and we both giggled as we marched to our class and Frankie just rolled his eyes and walked to his class, throwing a 'Later, guys" over to us and we waved to him distractedly.
Miss Lowe was pretty pleasant with the new addition to her class. She even let Matt sit with me. He was smiling all through class, enchanting almost all the girls in class. Except me of course. I'm the only one who knew how twisted he could get. So, zero attraction there.
As I sailed to 2 more classes, it was finally lunch time. Frankie and Matt would be meeting me in cafeteria at our usual table. I walked alone, ignoring everybody, as usual. Just as I stepped into the cafeteria, I saw Layne traipsing through the other door with her 2 mini-mes by her sides. Just then, her gaze fell on me. I held my breath, waiting for her to just look away and walk off. But I was dead wrong. She gave a lopsided grin and a wink.
"Addy, hey!" She called in a loud voice and the whole cafeteria stared at the two of us. My heart leaped as I smiled and waved at her. She beckoned at me.
"Bring your boyfriends over here." Layne said as she sat at her usual table. Her minions just looked on and sat on either side of her. I nodded and caught the eyes of my two boys. They got up and carried their trays over to Layne's table. Everybody kinda looked at us. I went there too with my tray after I have bought some food. I sat across Layne and felt very self-consciously. Layne and her minions smiled as they started opening yogurt containers.
