It was morning at Wes just parked his car in the crowded parking lot. I got out of the car and hoisted my backpack. I took a deep breath and started walking when Wes suddenly took my hand. I let him and we walked hand in hand into the crowded hallway.
I swear, when we stepped into the entrance, it was as if Wes had parted the Red Sea by his mere presence. Kids seemed to halt from talking and started whispering to each other when they saw us. Wes let go of my hand and put his arm around my shoulder and started walking. I followed, looking straight ahead. The other kids were looking at us like they were fascinated. Just then, we stopped at my locker first.
"Addy, I gotta get something from my locker. Wait for me okay. We'll walk to class together." Wes said and dropped a quick kiss on my lips. I smiled and he walked off. Suddenly, I turned to my left and I saw a group of girls staring at me. I could tell they were sophomores. They were looking at me like I was some kind of beautiful magical bird that they want to catch and hold captive. It was creeping me out.
"Uhm can I help you?" I said hesitantly as I pushed some books into my locker. They smiled and giggled. I frowned.
"Hi! You're Addy, right? Wes' girlfriend?" The blonde one said as the other 2 looked on.
"Uhm, I guess so." I said uncertainly.
"Oh my God! You are, like, my hero! I mean, it's so great that regular girls like us could get a hunk like that! You give us hope! Thank you so much!" the blonde said gushingly and the others gushed as well. I had to smile. It was weird, but kinda flattering that these girls look up to me that way.
Just then they froze and plastered a smile so big, it almost split their faces in half. I frowned and looked behind me. Wes was standing behind me. He snaked an arm around my waist and pulled me close. The girls' eyes were shining as they saw that.
"Hi Wes!" One of them chirped.
"Hello girls. How are you doing?" He said pleasantly.
"Uhm we're great!" Another one chirped.
"You're ready? Let's go." Wes said as he steered me to the opposite direction to our first class.
"Uh, yeah. Bye girls. It was nice talking to you." I said and they beamed.
"Yeah, bye." Wes said and smiled. They kinda swooned.
"Bye Addy! Bye Wes!" They said and then ran off, squealing and laughing.
We walked to my first class and Wes let go of me. We stood at the door for a bit. It was still early.
"So, I'll see you at lunch? Your table?" Wes said and I nodded. He then bent down and kissed me softly on my lips. I swear, I see unicorns leaping and shit when he kisses me. Literally. Unicorns leaping over rainbows.
"Hey, you're coming?" A familiar voice came up behind me. I looked over my shoulder and saw Chase. He was looking at Wes. When his eyes fell on me, he just nodded his head in acknowledgement. I nodded back. He didn't even call me dyke.
"'Sup, Addy.?" He said, surprising me to no end.
"Yeah, let's go. See you at lunch. Love you." Wes said and he gave my hand one last squeeze as he walked off with Chase.
I slowly walked into the class and felt eyes on me. Some girls who used to ignore me even smiled. It was weird but at least no one called me dyke. Which was really good.
Every day was the same. It was nice. My life as an outsider is over. I have a sister who would move mountains for me, best friends who would do anything I ask him to do, and a boyfriend who says I love you, every single day. It was nice to feel loved. And now I'm happy. Truly happy...
