The next night, a guy working with Josh and Wes at the lobster place was having a party. Daisy really wanted me to go. She tried so hard to make me go with her. I really hate parties. They're always filled with posers, idiots and girls that I hate to be associated with. Ok, fine. I am such a nerd that I never get invited to parties. Like ever. Frankie would get invited and brought me as his plus one, but I would always get stopped at the entrance by stupid wannabe popular guys. Usually, I would just slunk away and go home to lick my wounds.
So, my lack of enthusiasm to attend such an affair where the highlight of the night is beer pong, is totally understandable, warranted even. When all else fails, Daisy played dirty by enlisting Josh to guilt me into going. As I was locking up the kiosk, he came up beside me and put his arm around my shoulder. I steeled myself as he put his cheek to the side of my head. I felt my resolve weakening, even before he opened his mouth. Damn him for smelling so good and looking so scrumptious.
"Addy.. You have to go to that party. You want me to flounder all alone without you..."Josh said in a sulk.
"Oh come on, you'll be just fine without me. Quit being so dramatic." I said as I chuckled.
"Aww Addy, please.... Please come. Look at Wes' face. He's about to cry. He really wants you to go, too." Josh said and Wes' head shot up in surprise. His eyes widen when he heard what Josh said.
"Seriously, Josh? You wanna go there? You're dragging Wes into this? " I said with a chuckle as I put the keys in my bag.
"You know what? Let's just forget about the party. Addy doesn't wanna go, so I'm not going. End of story. " Josh said in a sulk as he trudged to his car. Daisy whined in disappointment. Crap, Josh is just so.. Urgh!!!
"Argh, fine, fine I'll go! Jeez, Josh you're such a drama queen!" I complained as I walked to his car. Daisy whooped happily as she grabbed me in a hug. I rolled my eyes as I went into Josh's car.
I sat in the back with Daisy as Josh drove us to the party. Wes was up front, looking way gorgeous in a dark blue shirt and dark jeans. I glanced at Daisy who was looking very pretty in a tight white top and skinny jeans. I looked at my loose-fitting t-shirt and skinny jeans. Yeah, I looked seriously like I was avoiding all human contact.
When we arrived at the guy's house, the lawn was packed with cars parked haphazardly. Josh parked and we bundled out of his car. Josh walked and we followed him. He seemed to be really popular because there was a roar of approval when he entered the packed house. I pushed my way in with Daisy holding onto my hand. Damn this house is packed. It was loud, smoky and humid. So not my scene.
Josh was nowhere to be seen. Wes had disappeared too. Only Daisy was with me, smiling at the scene in front of her. Suddenly, she jumped excitedly.
"Omg, I just saw some friends from high school. Come on, I'll introduce you. "Daisy said as she tugged at my arm, dragging me behind her.
So Daisy introduced me to her friends. They seemed nice but I didn't think they like me since they look like one of those popular kids. And I definitely do not look popular. Plus they're going to college after summer, like Daisy. So they kinda thought I was immature and cramping their style. When they started whispering to each other, I sighed and walked off. I took a red solo cup filled with cold beer. I took a sip and made a face. I wasn't a good drinker. I never liked the taste of beer. But I clutched the cup like my life depended on it. I sighed and walked out of the house when it got too crowded. The lawn was strewn with drunk kids lolling and rolling around. A few kids were puking in the pool. I wrinkled my nose and cringed. Yuck!
I walked to a nearby lawn chair and sat on it. I looked around, feeling bored. I wished I hadn't let Josh talk me into going to this stupid party. All I could see were drunk kids, drunk couples making out, catty girls out to score some and iffy looking guys leering at the catty girls.
I was watching 2 guys doing keg stands and a huge crowd was around them, chanting and cheering for them. I watched them, feeling bored out of my mind. Just then, I felt someone looking at me. I looked over at my left and saw a tall cute blonde guy was smiling at me. I frowned as I looked around me. He wasn't smiling at me, was he? I looked at him questioningly.
"Hi, can I join you?" He said suddenly with a smile. I looked at him and shrugged. He sat opposite me as he looked at the keg stand competition as well. Then I felt his gaze on me again.
"So, I noticed you're not from around here. You're having fun?" He asked with a friendly smile.
"I'm having a blast, doing jelly shots and drawing a yolo tattoo across my forehead," I said, a little sarcastically. He chuckled. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. There's only 1 reason a cute guy like that was trying to talk to me. He's on a dare. And damn if I don't make it hard for him.
"Sarcastic. Nice. I'm Len. What's your name? I haven't seen you around here before," Len said patiently as he pretended to be interested with me. I so know the drill. Believe it or not, this have happened before and I was so over it. So, I decided to play with this fool.
"Drew," I lied, sounding a little more butch than before.
"Oh, nice name. I like it. Hey, you wanna go somewhere less chaotic so we can talk? It's pretty hard to talk when there's all these people around, puking and yelling." Len said as he kinda gestured at the party scene. I looked at the mayhem and had to agree. It was getting worse by the minute. I scanned the crowd looking for Daisy, Josh and even Wes. I know, I was that desperate. But I saw neither of them. Sighing, I got up and followed Len, clutching grandma's house key, ready to jab it into the moron's eyeball if he tried anything.
Len brought us to the side of the house, which was surprising cleared of drunken human beings. There were only clumps of people passed out on the grass or small groups of kids talking. We sat on the grass and was quiet for a few seconds before Len started the ball rolling. Here we go, I thought as I braced myself for the pretentious nice crap from Len.
"So, where are you from?" Len asked. I decided to just loosen up. Better than feeling resentment. I told him. He nodded his head. We made small talk and I found Len was nice. And all my cynical thoughts flew out the window. Maybe it was the beer that he kept getting for me, but I was nicely buzzed after a while. Then suddenly I felt somebody pulling at my arm, gently coaxing me to come with. Like I was under a spell, I followed Len. I giggled. Everything looked dreamy and all misty. I just followed Len to wherever he was taking me. Then, he took me to a room.
"You got her? " I heard a voice I didin't recognized asked.
I was pulled into a room. I looked around me in confusion. Wait.. How come there were 4 other Lens.. And why did all the Lens look different.. Oh God, what 's wrong with me?!
