It's when he has to leave to take care of business that someone just has to come over. Perfect.

"Here alone?" A guy sits down beside me. I try to find Maze, but she's at the other end of the bar, talking to someone.

"No," I reply, taking a sip of my drink.

"What a worthless date—leaving such a pretty lady here on her own," he tuts. He has blond hair styled into a quiff. He looks like an asshole.

"My date is Lucifer," I tell him.

"Who?"

"The owner of the bar," I respond before taking my drink and moving to get up. "I have to go."

"Wait—" He grabs my wrist, and I feel a flood of panic rush through me.

"Let go of me," I snap, trying to pull away.

"Wait, let's just talk," he says, and I glare at him.

"I told you to let me go."

"And I told you to wait. Why are you in such a hurry?"

I can't exactly tell him that I belong to Lucifer and he doesn't want me talking to guys. And, this guy is drunk—not really someone I want to converse with.

"Lucifer is waiting for me," I lie. "Maze!" I call, but she can't hear me.

"What? Who's Maze?"

"Let me go!"

His grip on my hand tightens, and I do the only thing I can think of. I didn't want to resort to this.

I throw my drink in his face. He yelps and lets me go. I put the glass on the counter before backing up. I hit a hard body, and the familiar smell of his cologne floods my nose.

"Lucifer," I say, immediately wrapping my arms around him.

"Was this wanker hitting on you?" he asks, putting an arm around me.

"You're Lucifer?" the guy asks.

"Lucifer Morningstar, yes. That's me." He sounds calm, but when I look up at his face, I realize how mad he is. His eyes are practically aflame.

"You need to control your woman," the guy groans. "Look what she did."

"I think her reaction was completely warranted considering what you were doing," Lucifer snaps.

"Look man, I just wanted to talk to her."

"Well, she's taken, so you can leave."

"At least pay for the—"

"How about you leave now?" Lucifer cuts in. His voice is low and dangerous, and the guy realizes that.

He gets up and leaves without another word.

"Are you okay?" Lucifer asks, looking to me. I look up at him and meet his eyes.

"I'm fine."

"You handled that well," he comments, a smirk on his face.

"Thanks," I reply before adding, "I'd rather not have to do that again, though."

"Shall we go home?"

I nod, and he takes my hand again. We say bye to Maze before heading out the door.

I look up at the stars. They're so beautiful. I thought my life would be worse, but this first day hasn't been that bad.

But then, I start to think about tonight. I can't imagine that he isn't horny after seeing all those dancing girls in the bar.

What if he wants to do something? I don't know if I'm ready for this. I want to be treated like a person, not an object.

It was fine with clients—it was a one time or occasional thing. But what if he just starts using me for sex? I like how innocent things are now.

"What are you thinking about?" he asks me after a moment.

"Will us having sex change anything?" I ask bluntly, and he raises an eyebrow.

"It will change the fact that I'll finally see you naked," he responds.

"No, I'm asking if you'll still see me as a person."

"What, you think if we have sex, I'll see you as...just a toy?" he questions, and I nod.

"I know you think you don't know me very well, but I don't want you to think I'm that sort of person," he says, sounding slightly hurt.

"It's just...I was prepared to kill myself. For all I knew, you were some old creep who wanted me for sadistic sex or something."

"Wait." He stops walking, and I look to him. "You were prepared to kill yourself a—" He stops himself from whatever he was about to say and clears his throat.

I nod wordlessly, and he lets out a breath.

"Really?"

"Think about it. I had no idea who you were. I could have been disgusted by whoever my owner was. Maybe he'd keep me tied up—I didn't know."

"I'm assuming I don't disgust you," he comments.

"You don't."

He touches my face gently. "I don't want to hurt you," he says softly. He looks so beautiful in this moment. He looks almost vulnerable.

I can't deny that he's attractive. Maybe we could have an actual relationship. Maybe if we'd met in a different life, we'd wind up together by chance—maybe we'd have met at a bar.

I don't even realize that I'm moving closer to him. He's also leaning in.

And then, our lips meet. He wraps his arms around me, pulling me closer as I tangle my hands in his hair. He's so much taller than me.

It feels as though sparks fly. I've never felt this kind of rush before. My heart is beating rapidly. I feel breathless and giddy. He tastes spicy and sweet. I can taste the liquor on him. His body is so hot against mine—no. My body is hot. It's like a rush of heat surged through me.

We pull apart roughly, and I realize I've messed up his hair completely. But instead of letting me fix it, he leans in again. His lips meet mine once more. It's like now that he's got a taste, he can't stop. Although, neither can I.
