I need to talk to Lucifer, but I promised Maze. He didn't say more, instead changing the subject. I don't know why he didn't want to tell me. Maybe with time.

"So, you lovebirds done?" Maze questions as we walk out of the locker rooms. We've changed back into our clothes, and Lucifer's hair is a mess. I reach up to fix it, and as I do, he wraps his arm around me, sweeping me into him.

I yelp in surprise as his lips meet mine.

"Oh for fuck's sake," Maze groans.

I smile against his lips, and he grabs my ass, giving it a squeeze before releasing me.

"Alright, I'll be off then. Enjoy the rest of your day, ladies," he says, walking out the door and waltzing away.

"Finally, I have you all to myself," Maze says, looping her arm through mine.

"Why do you want to spend so much time with me?" I question.

"I really like you," she replies.

I feel flattered. She doesn't seem to like much of anyone, so it makes me feel special that she likes me.

"Can I ask you something?" I ask as we walk down the street.

"You just did."

"You know what I mean," I laugh.

"Of course," she says, glancing to me.

"We—Lucifer and I—knew each other...before, yeah?"

"You remember?" she asks, and I open my mouth to lie—but I can't.

"No," I admit, and she lets out a breath.

"I promised Lucifer I wouldn't tell you," she says, and I purse my lips.

"Is he going to tell me, then?"

"He wants you to remember on your own," she replies.

"Did we meet before?" I ask.

"You and Lucifer, yes."

"Was it...like in Hell? Am I actually dead? Holy fuck what is happening."

"You haven't changed a bit," she laughs. "I think you'll remember with time."

"What if I don't? Will you tell me then?"

"I don't know. I don't think it's my right place to say," she admits.

"Why not?"

"I'm not Lucifer."

"Hmm." I can tell that she's not going to tell me anything, so I decide to drop the subject. We walk the rest of the way in silence—but luckily, it's not uncomfortable.

We enter a coffee shop and order our drinks.

"Lily," I tell the girl behind the counter.

"Mazikeen."

"How do you spell that?"

"Surprise me," Maze replies, making me nearly laugh.

We go sit down at a table while we wait, and she puts her chin in her hands as she looks at me.

"What?" I ask. "Is there something on my face?"

"No," she responds. "I just find you very interesting."

"Why?"

"You captured the heart of an angel who also happened to become the Lord of Hell," she responds.

"Is he serious about that?"

"He doesn't lie," she says, and I let out a breath.

"And the scars on his back—"

"I cut off his wings," she says.

"Maseakeen and Lily?"

"Fucking humans," she mutters as she gets up.

We get our coffee before sitting back down again.

"His wings?" I prod, trying to understand more.

"Yeah," she replies. "He wanted me to cut them off so he could be...more human, I guess."

"So say I believe he's really the...Devil," I say, meeting her eyes.

"Mhmm."

"What can he do?"

"He's good with desires," she responds.

"Why does that sound inappropriate?"

"Because it often is," she replies flatly. "But no, he's good at extracting people's desires."

"I've never felt that," I reply.

"You've felt the other desire," she says smugly.

"Mmm," I respond, trying not to blush.

"You're special. Remember that," she says.

"I'm not."

"Oh trust me, you are."
