A whole week had passed since Taehyung's last encounter with Jungkook, and the latter hadn't shown up to class. Taehyung waited, for reasons unknown, sometimes on the bleachers after school, sometimes in the cafeteria, keeping an eye on his friends.
But he didn't show. Until today.
"Hey, man," Taehyung heard Hoseok say. "Where the hell were you?"
"Something came up," Jungkook said, and Taehyung couldn't quite understand whether his tone held no emotion or a lot of them at once. "Did the coach say something about me? I didn't mean to miss practice, and I know the game is in a few weeks."
"It's not like he can chuck you out," Yugyeom said with a snicker, referring to Jungkook's father. "I totally kicked Minhyuk's ass the other day, by the way."
Taehyung snorted, recalling how Minhyuk had given Yugyeom a lesson on "Why-not-to-mess-with-others". The action caught Yugyeom's attention, and he glared at Taehyung. "Look what we have here!" His voice was thick with malice. "The loser slash nerd eavesdropping like the little bitch he is."
Jungkook's head shot up, taking in Taehyung's rigid stance. Yugyeom walked towards Taehyung, sneering. "Do you want me to kick your ass too?"
Jungkook moved a little too slow to cut in, Jimin beating him to it. "I've got hands half your size, and I bet you can't even punch harder than me." Yugyeom stuttered, appalled by the pink haired boy's words.
"W-why you little..." he trailed off, his eyes wide and his mouth forming an 'O'.
"Save it," Jimin said, disinterested. "I'm too busy for this shit. Now get lost before I rip off your balls."
Yugyeom just stared at the boy, eyes wide with disbelief as he held Taehyung's hand and walked away, strutted away, in the opposite direction. "YAH!" He called after him, disgruntled. "How dare he- I'm-"
"Shut up, Yugyeom," Jungkook's voice was loud and demanding. "Stay the fuck away from them." His no-shit expression and deadly voice made Yugyeom gulp.
Jungkook turned to walk away, assured that he'd make himself clear, but the fool spoke nonetheless. "Why? Why should I stay away from them?" Yugyeom's voice was shaky, but accusing. "Do you like nerds now?"
Jungkook turned around slowly, his eyes dark and stony. "Who do you think you're talking to?" His voice mimicked his eyes as he edged forward in Yugyeom's direction. "Do you think a low life like you can question me?"
"Jungkook," Hoseok spoke softly. "Let it be."
"Stay out of this," he replied with a dangerous glare. "Yugyeom needs to know his place. Needs to be reminded where he was before one of us took pity on him...don't you, Yugyeom?"
The said boy dropped his gaze to the ground, paralysed with fear. "Jungkook," he whispered. "I'm sorry."
Jungkook leaned in to whisper into Yugyeom's ear, his voice low and lethal. "Stay away from them. Or I'll forget you're my friend."
Yugyeom nodded frantically and hung his head in terror. Jungkook turned around, his eyes unrelenting and walked away, his footsteps echoing loudly in the now empty hallway, and even louder in Yugyeom's mind.

"I'm home," Taehyung droned, his voice tired. He threw himself onto the couch face first and groaned.
"Why do you sound like a dying whale?" Namjoon's voice said. "Bad day?"
Taehyung replied with another groan, only perking up when Jin greeted him. "Jin hyung!" Taehyung ran to the said man for a hug, a rectangular smile on his face. "You never hang out with us anymore." He pouted and looked away.
"Ah, how can a seventeen year old be so cute?" Jin said with a grin and pinched Taehyung's cheek. "My cutest dongsaeng!"
"I'm not falling for it this time," Taehyung said, his pout deepening.
"Really?" Jin said with a smile. "Not even if I tell you I'll be living with you from now on?"
Taehyung's eyes widened and he squealed in delight. "Really?" His boxy smile made Jin coo and Namjoon grin. "YAY!" The youngest clapped his hands and skipped around the room, his hair bouncing on his head.
"Did Santa visit or something?" Jisoo said from the door, giving Taehyung a judgemental look. She put on her slippers and sat on the couch. "Why are you so happy? It's annoying." Her eyes sparkled in amusement.
"Jin hyung is going to stay with us!" Taehyung said and clung to the said person's arm for good measure.
"When are you moving in?" Jisoo asked with a grin, unsurprised.
"Already in the process." A pause. Jin cleared his throat and continued. "We have something to say."
Jisoo settled herself onto the couch and looked at the couple as Taehyung joined her. "Well...?"
"We're- it's kinda...ahem," Jin elbowed his fiancé and glared.
"Right. Yeah." Namjoon said. "We're getting married." Jin eyed him, wondering how he didn't hesitate for even a heartbeat.
"WHAT?" The kids said in unison. There was a pause, after which Taehyung spoke first. "Can I cry? No, I'm gonna cry at the wedding. I'm so...I'm emotional." He faux cried and hugged Jin again, and the older returned the gesture with an equal amount of affection.
"Speaking of which," Jisoo said. "When is it? The wedding?"
"In...a month or so?" Namjoon said, unsure.
"Five weeks," Jin supplied with more resolve. "I've helped out with a lot of weddings...so I know how it goes. It shouldn't take much time or effort."
Jisoo nodded and looked at Taehyung. "Prepare yourself for the best food in the world," she said and smiled.
"And the best dad jokes!" Taehyung inserted with another boxy grin. His attention diverted towards his phone when it vibrated persistently in his pocket.
"Hello?" He said, answering the call after having excused himself. The cool breeze made Taehyung shiver as he stood on the porch, looking at a flickering streetlight, his mind vaguely producing images of Jeon Jungkook sitting on the floor of his grandfather's study, his head on Taehyung's lap as he snores softly while Taehyung marvelled at how innocent and entrancing he looked when he wasn't smirking or scowling, his mouth hanging open, just barely, and his two front teeth peeking out, making him look so much more younger than he was.
Baekhyun's voice spoke softly but urgently from the other end, pulling him out from his trance. "Taehyung...We need to talk."

Author's note: I'm sorry I took longer than usual to update. The usual monthly Satan Falls from my body had me real weak and done with life. On the bright side, I got to lie in bed and sulk about my existence without so much as a hum from anyone. Anyway, on with what I actually wanted to say- THANK YOU FOR 1K reads! I am so happy💕 I need you readers to express yourselves though, I really don't know if this book is good or not.
