"How was school today?" My dad asked as i walked in looking tired as ever. I knew he must of been worried about the recent 'murders' his dark brown eyes never flashed away from the newspaper he was scanning through.

"Stupid.. Boring.. Cruel... You know, the usual." I shrugged throwing my backpack aside, searching his clothes for any signs of distress or struggle. There were none.

"It'll all be over soon Noah. We won't be here much longer." He finally looked up to meet my gaze.

"It'll never be over." I whispered more to myself as I raided the fridge for left overs.

"There's a meeting I'll have to attend today, think you can handle your own?" He asked without the least bit of concern in his voice, even though I knew his mind would be set on worrying on me all the while he was gone.

"Always have, always will." I smiled weakly as I munched into a slice of pizza. For once I was saying the truth.

"Good, just call me if anything happens or you need something alright?"

"Alright." I mumbled with my mouth full. An awkward silence set in, I could tell he wanted the conversation to continue but there was nothing to say, so I tiredly trended up the stairs to my room without another word.

My room looked all too cozy. The ceiling fan was swishing away making it cold as ice, exactly how I enjoyed it. I threw myself onto my bed and closed my eyes hoping for a sweet nap but I got something much more terrifying.

"You awake?" My dad shakes me furiously.

"Now I am.." I growl.

"You just seem so dead sometimes I have to make sure."

"What's wrong?"

"It's time, Just wanted to make sure you know that I won't be here when you wake."

"I'm pretty sure I could of figured that out on my own.' I whine sarcastically.

He smiles a bit at that and switches off my bedroom light.

"Who are they? I mean have you found out yet?" I ask into the darkness.

"No one, No one yet." He says leaving me to wash up and continue the night alone.

I knew my dad had his reasons for being secretive about well everything.

Ever since my mom's death, we'd grown apart. There's just certain doors that needed to be closed and never opened again. I use to sit and look at him cry over pictures of my mother for days. It broke my heart. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. After two years I finally sat next to him. I finally told him it was okay. He kissed my head and said "I know baby."

He never cried over her death again and her pictures were long gone. I never asked what he did with them. I felt that I didn't want to know either.

He tried to be a good dad, but I knew he put his place first. His place as a slayer. He killed monsters like us, monsters like me and my mom.

My mom didn't die of a natural cause.

She died of a vampire attack. My mom... My mom was a werewolf.

An escaped slave of the darkness.

Which made me a Lycan hybrid Baby, an unplanned child.

Something my dad's Commune did not approve. If it wasn't for me... She'd still be alive. If my dad wasn't so focus on protecting me... He could of saved her.

He's is a superior human being after all.

"Noah, I'm heading out okay?" I hear him call out once more.

"Ya , fine. I heard you the first time. I'll have something ready to eat by the time you get back." I reply quickly as I finish brushing my teeth.

I listen for the door to creek shut. It does.

Now I'm free to act like the animal I am.

The animal I've always been.
