Crossed Paths

Chapter 5

    Lily was cooking dinner in the kitchen. She didn't know exactly what to make. What would Alex want? Would it be harmful to the baby? She finally settled in making spaghetti and meatballs, the only thing that she knew was quick and easy to make. Once dinner was finished, Lily went upstairs to see if Alex was done unpacking.

     She opened the bedroom door slightly to see Alex sleeping peacefully in the bed. Her bag rested beside her feet, still with all her belongings inside. Lily quietly tip toed to the bed and grabbed Alex's bag, setting it on the dresser. She then lightly shook Alex awake for dinner.

Lily: Alex, dinner's ready.

    Alex's eyes fluttered open as she got up form the bed, stretching as a sign of a good sleep.

Alex: I haven't had a good nap in a while.

Lily: Well, sorry to wake you but dinner's ready.

     Alex smiled and followed Lily downstairs, sitting at the dining room table as Lily put a plate of spaghetti in front of her.

Alex: How did you know I like spaghetti?

Lily: I didn't.

     The small girl sat down as well and began eating. A question came to mind and Lily couldn't hold it in anymore.

Lily: Hey Alex?

Alex: Hm?

Lily: How did you get arrested?

Alex put her fork down and thought whether she should tell the truth or not.

Alex: This girl, my old friend actually, got a restraining order against me cause of, something in the past, and I violated it. 

Lily: Why?

Alex: Cause I hate that (cw).

Lily: What did you do, show up at her house?

Alex: Well...not exactly. I went to an event that she happened to be at and choked her.

Lily: Oh my god was she okay?!

Alex: Yea she was fine...unfortunately.

   Alex continued to eat her spaghetti without looking Lily in the eye. The short girl felt uncomfortable all of a sudden knowing someone who choked a person they used to know was sitting right across from her. After dinner, Alex put her plate in the sink and grabbed the sponge, squirting dish soap onto it. Lily walked up to take the sponge away.

Lily: I do the dishes.

Alex: Come on its the least I do after what you've done for me..us today.

Lily: Well you're a guest in my house, so I'll do the dishes. 

   Alex accepted defeat and let Lily do the dishes by herself.

Alex: I'm gonna go take a shower.

Lily: Okay. Don't be afraid to use the good soap.

     The tall girl nodded and went upstairs to the guest bathroom. She undressed and stepped in the shower. Alex looked to the left to the "good soap" laying on a dish. She took the soap and breathed in the lavender scent, then started to wash the jail cell smell off of her body.

   Lily stood at the sink not touching a single dish just thinking. What was she thinking? Bringing a complete stranger who may choke her if she does something to tip her off into her home. Well, what would she do if Alex tried to attack her? Would her baby be safe with her erratic behavior? So many raced through Lily as she wondered if this was a bad idea. Maybe she did the right thing taking in someone that needs her help. Maybe Lily could change Alex in someway. Maybe.
