A/N : Hello! How is everyone? Hope you all are doing well! This is a sad one with a fluffy ending! There is some religious parts to it but if you don't like that then of course you can skip. Also, there is a quote in here that I will point out that is from the movie Unbroken. It is not my quote! I hope you like it @edenxhazard-!!
A dark grey covers the length of the sky. The air is heavy and smells of death. The wind and rain nip at the back of my coat. The freezing temperature seeps into my skin and grips me like my sorrow. My fingers begin to numb whilst curled around the umbrella stick.
The twinkle that usually rests in my eye is gone, and replaced by a dull nothingness. I stare at the rectangular hole dug into the ground. A brown coffin sits in it. The crowd behind me weeps. Water bulges out of their eyes like a waterfall, yet i'm unable to shed a tear. Had I cried too much already? Did I want to be strong, at least for my father, who lies six feet under? I bite my lip, not knowing the answer.
The priest stands with a bible in his hand. He does not hold an umbrella, just let's the rain caress him. He stares into the crowd with an expression of remorse.
"However dark our night, however dim our hopes, the light will always follow darkness." (Unbroken quote) He finally speaks with his steady voice.
I let out a shaky breath.
"I'm scared papa!" I cover my eyes with my pillow.
His calming voice soothes me as he speaks. "There's nothing to be scared of, Laura."
"Promise?"
"I promise." He assures me.
"Don't worry sissy! Papa will protect us. So will I!" Sergio cheekily smiles from his bed beside me.
"He's right." Papa pats my hair. "And remember. Rainbows come after rain. Calm comes after fear."
"Carlos Ramos was our light. He believed every person deserved a smile on their face. He loved every soul as if he couldn't ever love again. He came to my church when I first became a priest. I loved seeing his face every Sunday. Every holy day."
"Laura, Sergio. Are you ready for church!?"
"Dad, I have practice soon though!"
"You can be a little late for practice, son."
"I'm ready!" I run down the stairs and find my brother and dad.
"You look beautiful dear." He hugs me and kisses my forehead. "Let's go yeah?"
"This tux itches." Sergio walks stiffly outside.
"You only have to wear it for an hour."
"Yeah Sergio! Man up!" I giggle.
"Shut up!" He rolls his eyes.
I stick my tongue out at him.
"No more of that bickering! Father Rodriguez will want to see our smiling faces! Happy thoughts my children."
"He loved his children more than anything. They were his light. He would do anything for them just to smile, to be happy. He loved them as much as his wife would've wanted him too. Even more than that. It was pure."
