A/N : Hey everyone! I hope you guys are doing awesome! This is for bartrugh !! I hope you like it ✨💕!
The blue painted walls contrast against the golden fur of the dog lying against it. His head rests against the metal table, making his ears tumble over his left eye. My coworker pets him softly whilst I get the shots ready. I place the needles on a square platter and take them over to the table.
"He's scared." My coworker notices.
I squat down so I can be on eye level with the golden retriever. I smile at him and pet his neck. "Hi Max," I whisper lightly, "You don't have to be scared. These shots are going to make you all better!"
Max wags his tail a bit at the sound of my baby voice. I smile wider and stand back up. My coworker shakes her head at how I can quickly calm a dog down. It's a talent of mine. I pull on my blue gloves and grab the first shot. My other hand moves the fur so I can look closely at the skin. I push the needle in and Max whimpers a bit.
"It's okay Max! Just one more! One more and you'll be chasing tennis balls in no time!" I pet behind his ear. I grab the second shot and quickly place it in his other leg. He flinches but does not show sign of anymore pain. I put the shots on the platter and give them to my coworker who takes them away. I lean down and face Max with a smile.
"See? All better!"
He licks my cheek, making me laugh out loud. "You're welcome, mister."
I put his leash on and help him down from the table. He shakes his fur when I place him on the tile floor. We walk to the red door and I let him go into the hallway first. I follow and the door slowly closes shut. I lead Max down the hallway to the reception desk where his owner is waiting. She smiles at us and gets on her knees to hug her dog. I hand the leash to her and she thanks me.
"You're welcome! He should be all better now but if he seems to be in any more pain, bring him right back and we'll check him out!"
The lady smiles, "I will! Say bye Max!"
Max turns to me and I pet his head. "Be a good boy!"
He licks my hand and I take that as his answer. They walk out the door and I let out a content sigh. I round the desk and plop into the office chair. The sun is starting to set and the orange hue leaks in from the windows. I click the mouse for the computer and my home screen pops up. My eyes scan the time and my leg begins to shake. I hope Marc gets here soon.
"Hey, you're leaving soon right?" Alicia, my coworker, comes over to me after coming out of the washroom. "I hope we'll close up soon because we aren't supposed to have any more appointments today."
"I'm sure you guys will." I lean back and look at her. "But yes, I should be leaving soon. Im just waiting on Marc."
"Oh!" Alicia smirks and sits down in the chair beside me. "He's meeting your family for the first time right?"
"Yep! He sure is." I slightly blush at the thought of Marc nervously shaking my fathers hand.
Alicia waves her hand dismissively. "He'll be fine. He's a good guy."
