20 years later

Mia POV

It was raining again. Every time I came to see Nick, it was always raining. As if the heaven knew that I was going to mourn. Yes, it's been twenty years. But it was like yesterday that he was still by my side.

I walked through the small path where my right and left there were endless grave stones at rosewood cemetery until I found Nick's. I read his stone again and my tear fell again. I kneeled in front of it and touched the stone imagining it was him. I put down the flowers and sat there, leaning to his stone.

"Hi Nick."

I looked at the stone again and traced his name with my finger, wishing it was him. "People said it will get better. Time will heal me. But it's not. I missed you so much." I wiped my tears. "every night I wish to have a dream of you but you never came into my dream. Not even once. I wish you could come and comfort me, but you never came too. Can't you see me from up there, Nick? Can you feel how much I miss you?"

For a second there I hoped that he was there but no, he wasn't.

"Your parents came again last weekend. I told them that James will be back tomorrow for summer holiday and they were so happy. You should be proud Nick. Our son received a full scholarship."

I remembered few moments with James and chuckled, "he always said that he wanted to be like you. A doctor. Every time he showed how proud he is of you, my heart overwhelmed. He is amazing."

I talked and talked, updating things to him until it was hours later when the sun shone from the top of my head.

"it's noon. I better go now. I will come back soon. Love you Nick."

I took a big breath and stood up. I drove back to the house and tidied up James' room and a guest room. He's bringing his room mate home this time.

I still lived at Nick's house. Even though our married was not legal but the Browns accepted me as their daughter in law and supported me during difficult times and some paper works so James could have Nick's last name. They're my family.

I went to the restaurant and worked for the second shift as people were lining up for dinner. I'm still working as waitress there. Not that Allie didn't offer me other job. She wanted me to handle management but I refused. I'm not that smart and educated.

"You're okay Mia?" Allie asked me when I was leaving my locker back to home.

"Yeah Allie. Tomorrow James will arrive at 8. I switched my off day so I won't come tomorrow."

"Yeah, I know. Lory told me. We'll come by for dinner tomorrow night?"

"Yes, please. It will be fun."

She took a long breath and smiled warmly and was going to say something. But she hesitated and end up didn't say a thing but left.

I drove back home and ate dinner by myself before I lied down on the bed. I looked at Nick's picture that I put on the night stand. He was smiling handsomely.

"Good night Nick." I said before I closed my eyes.

The next morning I woke up and looked at the time. I was late. I hurried to shower and got ready. I drove in hurry to the train station to pick up James. He's coming today from Einscity where he was taking his bachelor degree to be a doctor.

I parked my car and ran to the gate. I looked at the board and his train had arrived. I waited there for a minute or two when I saw someone so familiar. It was Nick. I was sure it was Nick. He looked different with carefree lay back expression and clumsy outfit. Not mentioned the hair that spiked like teens.

"Mom!" I heard James voice and I glanced away from Nick. I saw my boy stormed out of the gate and pulled me into his arms.

"James." I said while grinning widely.

He looked tired but happy. "Happy to be home?" I asked him.

He nodded and said, "very happy to be home. I missed you so much."

My eyes were back to Nick who was standing behind James as if he was waiting. James finally released me from his arms and stepped back to Nick.

"Mom, this is my friend, Nicholas."

"What?" I asked in disbelieve.

"Yeah, I know. He has the same name as dad."

I swallowed my glance. It was not that. He was very much look alike him.

"Hi, mrs. Brown. I hope I'm not ruining the summer. I don't know whether James told you or not but I have nowhere to go this summer. He's so kind to invite me here."

"It's no problem. Mom said okay, right mom?" James was asking me to confirm him and I did with a nod while my eyes were still on him.

Could it be him? Is he on another task again and born as human again?
