Mia POV
Things changed quickly after our returns to Rosewood. The beauty and friendly Rosewood had changed to a battle field. People were creating their own covenants and retreated to their safety places like Rosewood schools, government buildings, libraries or even any other places while me, the Browns and our closest friends were at Nana's.
Nana's place had a dungeon and it was fully stocked by canned foods, lots of them. Isaac, helped by his chef Jack and his son Joe, built a well strong fort surround Nana's ranch. I never went there for quite some time, and it was surprised me when I saw it the first time.
"We built it for few months, right after Michael told me to." Isaac said.
"You talked to him?" I asked him in disbelief.
"He came on the night Jacob was born and told me to." He said. "I didn't tell you because he asked me to keep it a secret from you." He said while looking down.
"Thanks to that, we were able to prepare." Allie said to me.
I nodded to her. I looked at Jacob who's sleeping in my arm, somehow I had a very bad feeling about this. As if I was going to be separated from my love ones. It started anyway. I had no idea the where about of my husband and my son.
As if she could read my mind, Hanna said to me, "Mia, they're coming back here soon. Don't worry. I could hear James' mind. He's with Nicholas now. But he needs you. He needs some information from you."
Our conversation was distracted by the shouting from Joe. "Look at the sky!" He shouted to us.
We all stood on our feet and walked to the barred window. The sky suddenly were covered by dark mist. Then we heard sound of buzzing.
"What's that?" Allie asked.
"Have you lock the barn? The animals?" Allie asked Isaac.
"Yes, they all inside." Isaac answered.
"Look!" Joe said while pointing to the cloud of dark mist that was moving toward us. When it's near enough, we could see that they were locusts. Millions of them. Their being covered the sky immediately and caused darkness around. It was only seconds, but seeing them was too horrifying that we felt it was like the world end. Luckily they didn't stop at our ranch. They were passing by only.
"Where are they going?" I asked.
"Seemed like to the city," nana said.
We were stunned by that awful view and couldn't react to it. But after they finally have gone, I walked back to a room, prepared for me, Hanna and nana. I laid Jacob on the bed and wiped him. It was so sad to have a baby in this kind of time. I couldn't promise him a future. I didn't even know whether soon the world still existed or not.
Jacob smiled to me with his round eyes and chubby cheeks. I touched his cheeks and caressed his hair when I saw a glimpse of fire in his eyes. I thought I was too tired for not sleeping well these few days that I started seeing things. But then it happened again.
"Hanna!" I called her. And she sprinted toward me.
"Yeah, anything wrong?"
"Hanna, look at Jacob." I said to her. She walked to me and stared at Jacob intensely. "Focus on his eyes."
"What is it?" She asked me but I didn't answer.
It was a few seconds later that there's a fire in his eyes.
"Oh my god." Hanna said. "Who's Jacob's father?" She asked me. "Is he an angel too?"
"He's not supposed to be one. He's a human like me."
"He's definitely half breed." She said to me.
"Mia!" Allie called me. I walked out of the room immediately and saw Isaac was on the phone and Allie said to me, "it's James."
I quickly approached Isaac and asked the phone from him. After saying few words, telling him to come by car and warn them about the locusts, he handed it over to me.
"Hello," I said.
"Mia." Nicholas voice from other hand.
Tears fell from my wet eyes. "Oh thank god. I was so worried." I said to him with held down voice for covering my cries.
"Baby, don't cry. James and I will be with you soon." He said in soothing voice.
"Be careful. It's so weird. The world is weird and I can't stop worrying until both of you be with us again. I love you Nicholas." I said softly.
"I love you too." Nicholas said to me. "We go now. See you soon. Bye."
The sun set and soon the dark came over us. We're so grateful that years ago, nana let Isaac to renovate her house, using green house technology, it had its own electricity and water preservation using the solar panels.
"At least it's not dark and we have enough water and food." Isaac said to me.
"How are you?" Allie asked me. "You looked pale. Are you tired? Maybe you should get some sleep." She said to me. "I can take care of Jacob for a while."
I looked to her and shook my head. "I couldn't sleep. Maybe later, when Nicholas and James are home."
"Don't live with worries. Put all worries away and hope for the best." Jack said.
"I'm afraid, my mind knows the right ones, but my heart is too stubborn to do the right ones." I said with a smile.
Few hours later, everyone already in their rooms and have some rests. While I was lying on my bed, I saw nana and Hanna were asleep. I looked at Jacob and he's awake. He's looking at me while smiling. He's so cute. "Hi."
His smile was wider, I held him in my arms and soon I was asleep.
I heard a laughter that made me aware of my surrounding. It was Jacob's. Then I heard that voice, someone's I've been longing to hear. I opened my eyes. The most beautiful sight I've ever seen.
Nicholas was singing lullaby to Jacob who's lying in his arms. I sat up on the bed, thinking what a beautiful dream I had. I treasured that moment, never I thought an ordinary event could be a memory of a lifetime.
It took for awhile to have Nicholas' eyes turned to me. His eyes were so much like Nick's. "You're awake." He said.
I stood up and in silent I walked to him. I let my hand touched his cheek, traced from his jaw to his hair surround his ear. I moved it back to the center of his cheek, cupped it. He cupped my hand and said, "I missed you too."
Tears fell down from my eyes and nodded to him. Then the three of us fell into our deep embrace.
