Mia POV

If someone asked me three days ago about my future, I would have imagined a very dark road ahead of me. But only by making a spontaneous decision to leave home and take a bus to Rosewood had changed my life. Meeting Mrs. Brown in the bus was a life changer. Her kindness to me was beyond my imagination.

It didn’t stop there. She brought me to her home, gave me a roof on my head and nice bed for me to sleep. Her son and daughter in law gave me a job and opportunity to finish my high school. And her grandson gave me his friendship.

My tears of joy flew to Nick’s shoulder and his tenderness rubbing my back up and down. After all these years I finally felt love.

“Please don’t cry. I gave you that to make you happy.” He stroked my back and rocked me a bit.

I pulled myself from him and wiped my tears.

“Come on, I’ll take you to Nana’s.” He stood up from the chair and gestured me to follow him.

I stood up and followed him from behind.

“Oh yes,” He suddenly stopped and turned to me, made me lift my head so I could see his eyes, “I never knew your last name.”

I grinned, “It’s Thompson.”

“Ow,” He frowned. His eyes rolled to the side like he was thinking, “Could your mother’s name be Maria?”

It was like a strike of a thunder directly to me, I was stunned on the fact he knew my mother’s name. My throat was closed suddenly, I have difficulties to breath.

“Are you okay?” I heard his voice unclearly and he became fuzzy and suddenly it was dark.

I tried to open my eyes but couldn’t. I tried harder and finally I succeed. I looked around but Nick wasn’t there. I was in a very familiar room. It was THAT ROOM. I moved my body to stand but I felt restraining on my both hands. I looked to my right hand and it was already tied down to the bed post. I looked to my other hand and it was also tied down. I whimpered and pulled my both hands strongly but the ties were too strong and my wrists were in a lot of pain.

I looked around and saw a man in the dark, walking approach me. I was frightened, afraid that it was my father. But when he was under the light, I saw it was Nick, not my father. He came and sat next to me, opened the ties and said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to save you.”

His voice was echoing in my mind and I felt my spirit was lifted from my body and like a toilet flush, I was being twisted hard and returned to my body and I gasped for breathing.

“Oh, thank God,” Nick was heavily panting and sat next to me on the floor.

I looked at him sweating and unlike few seconds ago, he looked so devastated.

I took my time to calm my breathing before I asked him, “What’s going on?”

He was still sitting near me and leaning to the wall behind him, “You fainted. When I wanted to wake you up, your pulse was so weak and there’s a time you’re not breathing. I was giving you CPR just now.” He touched his chest and said, “God, you scared the hell out of me.”

He then moved nearer to me, “Are you alright? Maybe we need to check your health condition. Did you have any heart problem before? Or maybe your family?”

I shook my head, “I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not,” He said it in a firm voice, “And it’s my professional opinion, you’re not fine Mia.”

“I’m fine,” I told him, trying to convince him.

“Has this happened before?” He asked me while pulling me to my feet and leading me to the chair again.
