Good Enough

What even is 'good enough'?

Society says 'good enough' is being better.

And better.

The only way to be 'good enough' is to be the best.

So that's what everyone strives for.

They fight and push and claw and play dirty for that one sliver of a shot to be 'good enough'.

And I have to do that too right?

I have to fight to even be visible in this patriarchal world.

And I have to be visible.

I have to be heard.

I refuse to be another silenced person of color.

Another silenced adoptee.

I will not lose myself like so many of my sisters before me.

But...

Is it worth it to fight?

Is it worth it to give into the world's standard of 'good enough'?

No.

Yes.

Maybe...

But I know if I give into the urge to fight for a place in this world,

I will lose everyone.

I will lose the reasons I began on this journey.

I will lose my morals.

I will lose myself.

In the quest to be
