I don't remember when but at some point I had fallen asleep. When I opened my eyes I found myself laying on Christopher's pillow. He was sleeping soundly, his red messy hair spilling over. I remembered what we did. We just opened up about the weirdest things. I found out his favorite food is pizza and that he'd never want to be my size. I told him I love sweet things and how I don't think I'd do well being as big as him. He shared his favorite songs with me and we simply enjoyed the night.
I looked at the time and saw he had never set an alarm for school. Luckily, I was only five minutes after his usual time. I poked his nose which caused him to stir awake."Huh..." He looked at the time and groaned. Then he looked at me and smiled tiredly. "Thanks, Mollie. My mom would've yelled at me if I was late to school." He put his hand down and I climbed onto it. He stood up and went to his kitchen. His mother was asleep on the couch in the living room. She looked the same every time I saw her. The smell of alcohol stung my nose and I could see the empty bottle on the floor. Christopher ignored the sight and poured himself a bowl of cereal. He handed me a few pieces and a napkin which I gladly ate. It was chocolate cereal too which was even better. After eating he had gotten dressed in some casual clothes. He made sure to get a t-shirt with a pocket since it would be warm today. He helped me in the pocket and made sure I was comfortable. He then left for school. As he sat on the bus he cautiously let me out of his pocket and held me in his hands. He sat all the way in the back so nobody would see him. He began to gently pet my head, showing that he was nervous. I simply leaned against his thumb and felt his warmth. I dozed off for the rest of the ride and awoke inside his pocket to hearing a teacher drone on about history. I looked up at Christopher and smirked at how bored he looked. His next class was with Mr.Boltz and the jerk who picks on him. When he went in I heard the bully speak.
"Hey borrower boy, did you find any fairies today?" He asked sarcastically. Christopher didn't look at or say anything to him. However I felt him tense up meaning he felt something. The boy kept at it. "Hey are you deaf or something?" I felt Christopher get pulled back. This told me Mr.Boltz was not in the room.
"Let me go, Zach!" Christopher snapped. Zach simply laughed, spun Christopher around and grabbed the front of his shirt.
"What are you going to do? Shrink yourself away?" He laughed again. Then he stuck his hand in Christopher's pocket. His hand wrapped around me tightly as I pretended to be a doll by not moving and keeping my eyes shut. "Aw look, Borrower boy has a doll!" I heard Christopher suck in a breath and Zach's friends laugh. As well as the whole class.
"Give her back, Zach!" He snapped. Zach's grip tightened making it hard to breath.
"Aww, does the little baby want his toy?" He raised me high causing my stomach to lurch. I wanted to open my eyes but if I did I'd blow my cover. As if Heaven heard my prayers, Mr.Boltz had arrived.
"Just what in hell is going on here?" He snapped.
"Little borrower boy has a doll!" Zachary joked as he lowered me.
"He brought that for me because I have a daughter. Isn't that right, Christopher?" Mr.Boltz said. I could feel the awkwardness from Zachary's hand.
"Y-yeah. I brought it for his daughter, Zach." Christophe lied nervously.
"So hand her over, Zachary. Otherwise you'll be in more trouble." Mr.Boltz said angrily. Zachary stumbled on his words as I felt him drop me into a hand. The hand didn't grip me tightly simply held me gently but firmly so I didn't slip from their grip. I heard a desk open and felt myself be set down. I opened my eyes finally and saw Mr.Boltz give me a small look that somehow said everything. I nodded and he shut the drawer but left a crack open so I could still breath fine and had light. I heard him then ask what else had happened and someone confessed that Zach had gotten physical with Christopher. Soon the bastard was sent to the office. I sat in the drawer I had been in before throughout the class until the bell rang.
Once the class was over Mr.Boltz picked my up gently and Christopher ran up and grabbed me somewhat roughly before hugged me tightly."I thought he was going to hurt you, Mollie!" He exclaimed. I squirmed in his hug as he was too overwhelmed in emotion to realize he was hugging too tight.
"Christopher I think you're hurting her." Mr.Boltz said with a chuckle. Christopher looked at me and immediately released me from his hug.
"Oh go, I'm sorry." He said awkwardly. I caught my breath and chuckled.
"It's fine. Just don't do it again please." I joked. Christopher nodded.
"I'll try not to be so aggressively loving." He joked. I laughed and he helped me back into his pocket. I poked my head out.
"Thank you, though." I said to Mr.Boltz. "You really helped us out."
"No need to thank me." He said with a shrug. "I'm just glad Zach did not cause any permanent damage."
"Yeah. It makes me afraid to bring Mollie to school." Christopher said. "And I can't leave her at home because my mom might find her." I saw Mr.Boltz contemplate a bit.
"Well, I know she has just met me face to face yesterday but if you'd prefer this she can hang around in here. I'd imagine that since she knows this room even better than I do she's be able to entertain herself and hide if necessary." He suggested. Christopher tensed and looked at me.
"Do you want to, Mollie?" He asked. "I don't know if bringing you around is a good choice but I'm also worried about your old clan."
"It's really up to you, Christopher. My clan won't bother me unless Jack orders it." I told him. Christopher made a noise of indecisiveness before answering.
"I think you should stay around here." He said. "You'll be safer. I'll come back after school and get you everyday." I felt as unsure as he did but I nodded.
"As long as you're okay with it, I'll do it." I told him. Mr.Boltz smiled softly.
"Don't worry, Christopher. She'll be fine. I won't cause any harm and nobody will be able to." He looked at me. "I'm sure you know your way around so do as you wish." He said. I nodded.
"Thank you again." I told him. He shrugged and went back to sit down. Christopher set me onto the floor.
"I'll see you at lunch, okay?" He said. I rolled me eyes.
"Yes, Christopher. I know. Now get going, you're going to be late to class." I told him. He smiled softly before rushing away. I began to climb the cabinet and sat on top like old times. I watched Mr.Boltz teach his class before noticing something.
I was not alone on top of the cabinet.
