After reaching Christopher's room, and settling onto his bed, an awkward silence came and took over. So I choose to speak first.
"So, how's life?" I use the most obvious sign of not knowing how to start a conversation. Chris shrugs.
"Other than being tackled by borrowers, and constantly harassed by others, life is fine." He said.
"Well I guess I'll just sweeten your life up." I joked. He made a small smile.
"Can I ask more about borrowers? I'm really curious about your kind."
"Okay. But in return I can ask about giants."
"Alright. I'll go first and then we'll go back and forth." He thought for a moment. "Why choose the school?" I knew he'd ask eventually.
"Ah, now that's difficult." I said. "No one knows which tribe first settled inside your school. But now we use the classrooms as territories."
"So there's a group in every classroom?" He asked.
"Yeah. The metal and wood room has the beaver clan. They used the dust from the metal to make weapons and other things, as well as wood for beds and all. " I hugged my knees casually as I sat on his bedspread.
"Wow, you guys have really stepped up from the stereotypical borrower then." He joked. I laughed.
"Now it's my turn to ask a question." I thought for a moment. "Why do you giants seek dominance so much?" This made Christopher shift in his position. He was sitting with his legs crossed while I was in front of him.
"Well, uh, I'm not sure honestly." He admitted. "Humans have always been kind of oppressive."
"What does oprassive mean?" He laughed.
"It's said Oh-press-sive. O-p-p-r-e-s-s-"
"Alright, got it! No need to confuse me and spell." I exclaimed. He laughed.
"Just trying to teach you a bit. Oppressive means someone who tries and hold down another. To oppress is to hold someone down or to dehumanize them. Basically, make them less human." Christopher explained. I tilted my ears as I tilted my head as well.
"Jeez, sounds like dogs." My answers seem to entertain Christopher, seeing that he laughed again. "What's so funny?"
"You are. Your answers at least. You act as if you're a cat, and it's funny." He said between small laughs. Now my ears were flat.
"Hey! I do not act entirely like a cat!" I snapped. He glanced at my ears, and failed to stop his laughter. "Stop laughing!" I exclaimed, face burning. He finally stifled his laughter.
"I'm sorry, but you're just too funny." I crossed my arms and looked away from him. He made a short sigh. "Oh come on, don't be like that."
"Nope." I said, holding a smirk back. "You made fun of me." He scoffed.
"I'll get the cage if you don't look at me." I immediately looked up at him, only to see a goofy grin on his face. "Got you!"
"Oh screw you." I couldn't help but laugh. We sat just laughing a bit, then fell to silence. Then Christopher's mom called for dinner.
"Hey, I'll try and see if my mom will let me eat in my room. If not, I'll bring you some food, okay?" He said with an apologetic tone. I shrugged as an answer. "Just don't hurt yourself, okay?"
"Go get food." Was my only answer. I was hungry, and my stomach decided to make that clear with a growl. Christopher laughed.
"You just ate food before, but okay then." He joked before leaving. I rolled my eyes as I stood up. I carefully climbed down his bed, more like slid. He hadn't made his bed, and so the covers were conveniently laying on the ground. I then began to walk around the room. I was half expecting to find one of those thin books that the teenage boys showed each other at the highschool, the ones with images of women. Instead I found nothing but a razor under his bed.
I then wandered around his room to see what else was around. I found nothing interesting by the time he came back.
