Chapter two

"Troublemaker"

*a few days later*

Veronica is one of those people that don't seem to be eloquent in talking since hardly any words are heard from her in public. And it was pretty hard ignoring the fact that the younger, dark haired almost gothic looking princess hardly ever talks. Not with them at least.

If I didn't know I'd say she's the most talkative from both of us, she talks to me a lot. Ironically enough she's has been blabbering for an hour and I still can't manage to understand as to why Duchess Christine still doesn't know how to read.

I had been so consumed in my thoughts, I only heard her wishing a good night to me and walk out the door. I stare at the door for a few more long seconds before I decide to teleport myself to Aura's bedroom. I manage to do so but I stumble and risk to fall as I had stepped on a few books and other object laying on the floor. Aura on the other hand was laying on her stomach with her legs bent and crossed over each other only some feet away from me on her bed, playing solitaire on her own.

"Who's Napoleon?" I asked picking on of the massively thick books from the floor.

"I figured you of all people should've known." Aura mocks my previous question knowing I do read a lot of books about humans, and that were originally written for humans.

"He's some kind of French statesman and military guy, I only read like five pages. You can have it if you want."

"Thanks but no thanks." I put the book on her nightstand and jump on her bed causing her cards to wreck. "So?" I say.

"So what?" she frowns at her jumbled up cards and starts collecting them into a big pile. "Was I supposed to find out about or if there was anything interesting going on with the blood ones?" she says raising her eyebrows at me.

"Yes?" I smile awkwardly at her.

She turns herself over and lays on her back. "Weeell I could tell you, but then I could also keep it to myself and torture you with the fact that I knew and you didn't for the rest of eternity."

"Which means you are going to tell me, now, spit it." I demand.

"What were you to do without me huh?"

"Probably die of boredom." I joke. "And defriendation, but mostly boredom." She laughs at the nonexistent word I just used.

"Oh bless my eyeliner." She jokes. "Where were I?"

"Aura!"

"Alright geez fine pull your fangs in girl." She comments at my teeth, our fangs always seem to only show themselves when I either need them or when I'm angry. I do as she says. "The blood ones want to find out who's their prince's mate, so they're organizing a masquerade ball. The masks are so the prince won't be able to see their face."

"Maybe I shouldn't go." I say in a sad tone.

"Agreed."

"I mean, what if I get caught? My father will stab me until I become pillow stuffing."

"Most likely."

"But, on the other hand, I am never going to find out about anything if I am to just read books all day."

"Exactly." She widens her eyes in excitement.

"Such a good friend you are."

Aura giggles at me now properly sitting on her bed. "I know." She grins.

This really might be my only chance to go, and no one will actually notice. All of us are going to be wearing masks so it's perfect.

"When's the ball?"

"In a few hours..?" She says innocently.

I frown and sigh letting my back fall on Aura's bed. "Fuck. If my father realizes I snuck out-"

"Again." She adds to my statement.

"Again. I'm going to be in so much trouble."

"It wouldn't be the first time you know?" She encourages me and I think about what the consequences would be if my father saw my bed was empty, or anyone else for that matter. Last time he didn't allow me to come out of my room for a week, he had maids bring and take food trays away.

"I guess you're right."

"I know don't bow down and kiss my toe." She jokes again. "Now, hurry up and get ready!" She pushes me to get off the bed and smiles like a fool. For a slight moment only though, then that smile is replaced by a serious yet excited face. "I'm joking all you have to do is stand." She looks down at her lap, closes her eyes only halfway and says some words under her breath while moving her hands slowly in the air. She then opens her eyes and stares at me like a mad cat lady. Not that she isn't, mad I mean, but she's the good kind of mad; the kind that doesn't let you do crazy things, alone. She did at some point have a cat too but I think it ran away or got poisoned by one of her charms I am not one to remember.

"Why are you staring at me like that, have you finally lost it?" I raise my eyebrows in confusion.

"Just go and visit the mirror would you?" She orders and I chuckle while doing so.

I turn my head around and looked at the mirror across from us only to walk toward it in awe of what I see. My previous outfit of shorts and a green t-shirt had been replaced by a beautiful white dress with black lace across the upper part and the arms. It was no longer than to my ankles. My messy hair was straightened and it reached my elbows and managed to cover my "side" pretty well. Light vampires have a beige vein on their neck, and the blood ones have a purple one.

"Have I ever told you, you are the best witch I have ever come in contact with?" I tell her still gazing at my reflection.

She chuckles and comes up behind me. As I bring myself to touch the lace details on the dress I notice a ring o my middle finger. I has a tiny red stone on it which I assumed it was garnet. "What's this?" I ask curiously.

"That, my dear, is my greatest invention yet." She smiles proudly. "It's a little loose but it'll do."

"A ring?" I continue looking at my finger trying to make sense of it.

"Let's just say you won't burn immediately after you touch a blood vampire."

"This is so amazing!" I turn around to face her. "You are one hell of a friend Aura. Thank you."

"I know I know, devils have blessed you with me." She states with the same proud smile. Somehow, even with tiny rocks on the way and possibly microscopic pieces of glass Aura still wanted to walk barefoot through the clan and everywhere she went. "Ohh and I almost forgot!" She rushes to her nightstand and pulls out the bottom drawer, grabs what looks like a mask and walks back to me. "Take it." She holds it out for me. I take the black simple mask out of her hands at put it on me extending the elastic string and then letting it go once it's comfortable on my head.
