Chapter fifteen

"Love isn't for fools"

AARON's P.O.V

"And you say she's certain about this son?" My father walks circles around me as I stand with my left wrist on my right hand behind my back admiring the carpeted floor in my father's room. His room was always tidy; everything knew its place and was in it. Although his room had only one rectangular window above his king size bed with mustard colored sheets with red stripes at the edges.

"Yes," I say flatly. I decided it was best to tell him about me possibly being mates with Vega. I had nothing to lose; especially since he expected me to find a mate. "I think so."

"Interesting." His fingers interlock with each other as he keeps walking around my figure.

"Father?" I question over my shoulder.

"Son?" Although he was behind me I could feel the amusement he had from the sound of his voice.

Pathetic.

"I think you've finally made yourself useful my son." He walks in front of me with an awkward grin and a weird look in his eyes. His words came out I a hurry; each one with more thirst for revenge than the other. I furrow my eyes in annoyance. How dare he call me useless?

"This Vega girl you speak of, the light whore." As he speaks I feel my patience growing thin. Oh how you weren't supposed to talk about her with that smile in that way, but then again; it was her we we're talking about. Not her. Not my mate, not the one I wanted at least. "Is she... how do I say this? Even the least of naïve?"

"I don't know, ho-"

"Well know!" He spats out allowing his head to do a sudden and unflattering movement complimenting his anger. "Know! Find out! Make yourself useful!"

"I thought I already did that!"

"Once!" He does the same movement with his head again; this time his right leg stomping on the floor and balled up fists accompany it. "Once Aaron! And once is not enough."

"It never is enough for you." It seems as if he ignores all I say to protect myself when he fixes up his somewhat messed hair furiously with his hands and continues to speak.

"Find out son." He says. "Lure her in; do something. Love isn't for fools but it makes a fool out of us sometimes." His trembling hands had a tight grip on my shoulders. After his words he looks at almost nothing for a few long seconds before that same smile returns to him again. "Good job son!" He pats my back and looks at me expectedly.

Right.

This was still his room and he no longer needed me; not that he ever did.

VEGA's P.O.V

Me rushing to teleport out of the secret library before having my parents ask where in hell I was going resulted in me teleporting right in front of a slightly annoyed and disappointed looking Aaron. Thankfully, not too close.

As he sees me his senses force him to jump in surprise. Realization rushes over him; I take a few steps back as I damn myself over those fearful eyes. "What.are.you.doing.here." Aaron locks the door behind him in an instant.

For the moment I thought I had become Veronica; I was so damn lost for words that I couldn't even remember how to spell orange. Ver was always awkward during social situations, and in fact awkward would be an understatement.

"I asked you something!" His tone was low, but the anger that came with it made me fear it more than his eyes. I gulp my fear down handing him the book. His big hands take it from me with force.

Add adorable confused face to the list of Aaron's face expressions.

"What is this?" He turns the book around looking at it. "I don't like Snowhite, or apples."

"Read the damn thing your majesty." I took the quick seconds of pure awkward silence to study his room. He had a pair of hung axes and swords over a long desk.

I wonder how much it would hurt when he killed me with one of those-

"This is a joke!" He yells and throws the half open book at me without even the littlest of care if he hurt me or not. I somehow manage to catch it walking to the left and extending my arms out. "Get out!"

I take a few steps back again feeling scared. "It is not!" I try to hide the fear that weakened my pathetic soul.

"Don't yell at me or else-" His arrogance hid his beauty with those kind of words. It saddened me that he was only nice and caring to some people. And it saddened me that I wasn't some people.

I swallowed my fear, why couldn't he swallow his pride?

"Or else what? You can't do anything to me!"

And if there is even the last piece of justice left, please take miss pride to jail. It has killed so many lovers god damn it, not that we are; lovers.

"I owe you nothing!"

"You owe your damn people!" The high toned words seemed to give me some strength. Confidence at least. "My people don't deserve to die, and as much as I hate you and your kind yours don't either!"

He stood silent.

I reassured him with another sentence. But I didn't know who I was trying to convince, him or myself. "You hate me, the feeling is mutual." I could notice some slight changes to his expression. If that was his satisfied face; so cold and flat, I wondered what pure range and hurt looked like on him.

His silence made my breathing uneven and him clenching his fists resulted in me holding it for a split second. I tried to breathe out as silently as possible, but it didn't look like he was going to speak up anytime soon. "Kill me,"

His head jolts up and he brings his eyes to meet mine.

Shocked?

I don't think so.

"Kill me! Please!" My grip around the book tightened, and that damned tear just had to fall off.

"Shut it!"

"Kill me!"

"Stop crying! I hate it when you fucking cry!" Talk about pet peeves.

And for some reason, that's when it hit me. And it didn't lightly punch me or slap my forearm; no; it all came crushing down from another galaxy it was so heavy. Too heavy. It's always too heavy for me I've surprised myself of how I have managed to stand up.

No matter how many prophecies I read, none could convince me that a feeling as beautiful as love could exist between two people who are so different.

And maybe he was my mate, maybe he wasn't.

I was never to find out; because either I or him would be dead in a matter of time. And I had a strong feeling it would be me.

I mean why shouldn't it be me?

I'm pretty, a rule breaker, and I cause trouble wherever and whenever. I'm everything the devil would want.

Am I?

"What are you gonna use to kill me? I don't like pain."

"Damnit Blondie!" He yells throwing his fist in the air and slamming the huge locked wooden door behind him. "I'm not going to kill you! I am not becoming a murderer under any circumstances!"

I allow my head to hang down just a bit in disappointment.

"I'll do everything else," his words cause my head to bring itself up slowly. "But I am not by any means killing anyone."
