Chapter eight – rewrite

"Pride, thing of doom"

Aura's P.O.V

I was hiding behind two or three huge rocks, I wasn't really paying attention to the number of rocks shielding me from the human and Vega; I was more focused as to how many drops would it take to erase the human's recent memories. Of course I didn't intend on making him forget his whole life story as to that would've been too much of a stretch, and trying to come up with a potion to allow him to remember the color of underwear he wore last Tuesday would be exhausting; that's actually an understatement.

Carefully I pulled my head out to peak at Vega's work, she being the best liar I'd ever known was playing her part perfectly. The prince tried picking her up and I immediately pulled my head back to hide myself behind the rocks for the reason that I thought he saw me or at least caught a glimpse of me.

I hear a thud sounding like a body drop to the ground and smile as I realize this was Vega's fastest attempt yet to bite a human; but of course hunger was playing a great part in it I didn't even have to assume.

Almost five minutes after I had heard the body drop and I was still hiding behind the rocks tightening my grip around my bottle of serum struggling to handle the anxiety piling inside me. Curious as to why she was taking so long to call for me I carefully stick my head out again and am left shocked and confused to the core by the show I had playing just for me.

I failed to applaud at the terrifying sight as the curtains are up. If anything I hold on the bottle yelling for her, hoping no, fucking praying that she was pulling some kind of trick on me by hiding somewhere else and I was unable to see her from my current position.

I start to panic even more as I continue to look for her and she fails t come out. "Vega!!" I yell for the millionth time, letting out numerous short breaths while repeating her name in silence.

Devastated I fail to completely accept the fact that my best friend wasn't coming out of her hiding place like in hide and seek this time. I fall back trying to run but manage to get up using my hands scratching them in the process in some bushes and I ran; I ran as fast as I could to the castle.

"Breathe Aura," Veronica tries to help me catch my breath as I take multiple spoons of air one immediately after the other in a heavy pace. "I can't for the life of me understand what you're saying. What happened? You mentioned Vega." She says and I nod in affirmation. "Is she alright?" She lays questions in layers and sadly I could answer none of them.

"S-she. Veronica I'm so sorry..." I still wasn't able to breathe properly as I explained what happened to her. If it was possible her eyes widened at my every word, from the start until the end she looked as if my words were swords that stabbed her continuously.

"And I-I looked and she wasn't there and I panicked an-"

"How is could this even happen?!" She cuts me off and despite having the face of a person who was sure to pass out at any given moment she gets up and starts pacing around the room.

"I told yo-"

"No, you're telling my stepfather about this right now!" With that same sick-looking face she grabs my wrist and with what felt like all the might she had she pulled me out of her room in which the black color was mostly dominant and down the halls.

"This is – the hell you mean you lost her?!" king Connor repeats not accepting my explanation in anger making me flinch in the process. "The hell you mean you don't know where she bloody is?!" He continues despite my flinching.
