Elven-Wolves

Chapter 1

A beautiful blue moon shone high in the dark sky. The village was bustling around preparing for the festival tomorrow. Every cave had moon lantern hanging off the edge of it. If you were to stand on the hill in the outskirts of the village it made the valley look like a sea of lights. It was a beautiful sight, especially seeing how each lantern has a gift inside of for me and my twin Sister for our coming of age.

"Brother, Brother! Wake up Brother." I look up and see my sister. She is standing there with her silver hair swaying in the wind her ears perked up waiting for the next set of fireworks to go off.

"We still have to go and prepare too, you know, I mean tomorrow is our coming of age festival," she says annoyed.Just as she says this I hear my name being called.

    "Haro! The village chief, your father, is calling for you and your sister Halo." I turn around and see my childhood friend Izoy with his short brown fur and ears. He seems to be very cheerful and is standing there with his tail wagging back and forth, which probably means that my father is not summoning us for a scolding. Realizing that Halo is next to me and was in a pretty foul mood Izoy jumps back.

I get up and ask Izoy " Did Father tell you what he wished to talk to us about?"

"No all he said was to bring you and Halo to him."

"All right. Tell father we will be there in a minute." He turns away and begins to run in the direction of my father's cave.

"All right, you heard Izoy. You have to get up now," Halo says.

"Alright, but let's stop by the blacksmith first so that I can pick up Len. He said that he needed to be sharpened before we leave tomorrow. Oh, and did you remember to get Rin sharpened? You do remember that we will not be able to visit Hina the blacksmith again for an entire human year, right?" 

She looks off into the distance and finally after a long moment, she says, "Yeah you're right. I will drop Rin off tonight when you're picking up Len".

As I am rising to my feet I feel a strong gust of wind hit me but I just shake it off. "Then let us get going, Halo," I say as I start to run towards the blacksmiths. She looks at me for a quick second and starts running with me.

"Race you to the blacksmith's," I say as I start off.

" Oh no you don't!" she says, as she raced ahead of me.

We race through town as fast as we can dodging people carrying boxes and bags full of who knows what.

Just as we get to the blacksmith's "Boom!" off in the distance causing both of us to jump.

"It must be another firework that the firework makers are testing" Halo says. As we enter the Blacksmiths we see Hina standing in the doorway of the forge with her long blonde hair tied back into a messy bun with her tiny ear barely poking through from the top of her head and her brown, tired eyes staring at us.

    "You're in luck, Halo, I finished with Len early, so I sent him to go get Rin. He got back about an hour ago with her, so I sharpened her too," Hina says as she hands us, Len and Rin.

I unsheath Len from his scabbard and look at the pitch black blade. I check to make sure there were no imperfections in him. I resheath him and lean him against the wall so that he can transform more easily.

There is a slight black glow as he shifts into a Raven and lands on my shoulder. " You really need to pay more attention to time Haro. You are a whole hour late to pick me up!" he says sounding smug.

I give him a slight flick to the head and turn to look at my sister.

"I knew you were forgetting something when I saw you asleep underneath that tree," she says, laughing.

"This is the fourth time you have forgotten to pick up Len from me this month," Hina says as she gives a sigh.

"You are too carefree sometimes. It's a wonder how you even are the village chief's son. Well then, you four better be off. I heard from some fire spirits that your father is waiting for you in his cave,"  she says annoyed.

" Ok then, we will be off ." my sister says as she turns with Rin on her shoulder.

I think back to when I first met Rin and Len and begin to wonder how Len, a pure black raven was birthed from the same egg as Rin, a pure white Raven.

"Haro, we better hurry otherwise Father is going to be upset with us for not being there promptly," she says as she starts to run towards father's cave.

I follow suit and begin to chase after her.
