The Road not Taken

Note: This was something I wrote in English class. We were supposed to be rewriting "The Road not Taken" in a different tone but I sort of changed the story and the rhythm so....

Two roads diverge on the path of life:
one to prosperity; one to despair
and each disguised as the other
to which they were headed, I didn't know where
but still the choice was no bother

I stepped upon the blinding light
expecting that riches I should soon own
but further my advancement down the path--
the darker the light had shown.

The world around became darker and cold,
but still the light had drawn me in
further into a depression I strolled:
hoping soon I could find that for which I began--

And trapped in pure darkness today I still sit
without a way to travel back
despair: it drowns me
prosperity: never found me
and by the sly tricks of life I have been attacked.
