Victor POV

"...I FUCKING LOVED YOU AND YOU LEFT ME!"

All I could do was stand there. what am I supposed to do? I ring him back as quickly as possible but he doesn't pick up. He's drunk and alone, what if he hurts himself? I need to get back there!

I run out of the bathroom and see Lucas sitting on the sofa with a beer watching the football. He turns when he hears me by the doorway and looks me up and down, "Are you ok?"

"Umm, I-I..." I can't tell him I need to go and see my ex-boyfriend, can I? "Yeah, I'm fine...Actually, can we talk?" He nods for me to continue and I take a seat next to him on the chair. "I'm sorry but I need to go back."

"Go back?"

"Home, I need to go home." I hesitate for a moment but he deserves the truth, "My ex, Yuri, he called and he's drunk and alone. I'm worried about him."

"Isn't there someone else you could call to check on him?"

I guess... "Yeah, there is," I try to force a smile, "I'm sorry I just overreacted a little."

"No, it's ok I understand. If my ex called In that state I wouldn't be so heartless as to just leave them."

I called Phichit and he said he'd go check on him, so I suppose that's all there is to it.

"Thanks," I whisper pecking him on the cheek. But as he turns his attention back to the football I can't help but think about what Yuri said 'all I wanted was for you to be there for me'. Did he really feel that way? Had I hurt him even more by not being there for him?

I have to get out of here.

Quickly I snatch the car keys from the side table and head for the door.

"You going out?" I hear a call from behind me.

"Yeah just feel like going for a drive."

"Ok, just be careful." He replies smiling lovingly at me...what have I done?!

The car door slams behind me as I jump in and twist the key, bringing the Mercedes roaring to life. I pull out of the drive and head towards the nearest town, it's only a couple of minutes away, maybe it would have been more sensible to walk?

I park sloppily outside the first bar I see. Now that the mad rush of Christmas is behind us the streets are empty and the bar is almost deserted.

The door swings open with a light push and I slump down on the first stool I reach, coming face to face with the bartender.

"Can I help you kid?" He demands in a rough voice.

"Whisky please."

"You got some ID?" He questions leaning on the bar and looking a little agitated. I lift my hand to reach into my pocket, pulling out my driver's licence and handing it to him.

He doesn't speak again, just lifts a glass from beneath the counter and places it in front of me before filling it with the dark liquid.

I take a large sip and it burns it's way down my throat, warming my insides. In a few minutes, I've downed the whole drink and am asking for another. Then another. Then another. Downing them one by one.

"CannI gettanother pleeease?" I slur to the bartender.

"I think you've had enough kid." He sighs, taking my glass from me and placing it behind him, out of my reach.

"Youu're probley right," I reply resting my arms on the table and allowing my face to collapse into them.

"Do you want a cup of coffee or something?"

"Nothannks, thinkk I shouldgo."

I stumble getting off the stool, almost falling over before making my way to the door when my phone starts to ring. Wait, is it my phone? I look around trying to pinpoint the ringing like a dog trying to chase its own tail. Eventually, the bartender lets out an annoyed groan and walks up to me pulling a vibrating device out of my pocket and answering it.

"Hello?"
...
"Yeah...he's fine."
...
"Mmmm yeah, don't worry about it."
...
"Ok see you soon Lucas."

I try to glare at the man, but I don't think it worked. He just grinned back at me, slipping my phone back in my pocket.

"Y-you knowwLucas?"

"Yeah," he shrugs, "we practically grew up together, he's like my brother."

"Oh," is all I can manage before I'm dragged back to the bar. "Waiiitttt, I wanna go home."

"Just hold on Lucas will be here soon." Giving in, I sit back on the bar stool and rest my head back on the bar.

***

The door closes with a crash and I spin to see a half-frozen Lucas standing in the doorway. He rushes up to me and takes me in an embrace.

"Oh my god, Victor, what happened?" He asks frantically brushing the hair from my eyes but I avoid his gaze.

"I'm sorry," I replied suddenly feeling a lot more sober.

"Sorry for what?"

The puzzled look on his face made my heart break.

"I thought that I could make this work. I like you, I really do." I say cupping his cheek and rubbing it gently with my thumb, "but, hearing him, it just brought back all these feelings, it broke me and I can't..." I shake my head a little but my vision starts to black at the edges and I feel myself drifting out of consciousness. Then the world loses light and I fall...
