Chapter 12

My friends barge in and stop in their tracks when they see Zack. "We can come back later," Jenna says shyly already backing out the door. Zack cleared his throat, "No it's fine, I was just leaving anyway. Night Layls." He walks out the door to his room. Nick imitates one of Zack's low whistles. I shove him playfully. "Sorry that we interrupted something," he jokes at me.

"Ha.ha." I shoot him a look to show him that I'm not amused. Jenna ushers Alex and Nick out the door insisting that we need a 'girl talk'. "Oh Jen, no goodnight kiss?" Nick pouts and she goes bright red.

"OK you are going to tell us exactly what the hell happened between you and Zack!" Katie said pouncing on my bed. I mumble that nothing happened.

"Uh-huh," Tiffany says. "Nothing happened and yet there is chocolate AND appetizer!" Jenna nudged me.

"And not to mention that we walked in while you two were entangled in each other." She winks at me and I moan. "Sorry, but you were caught red handed." Jenna squealed enthusiastically. "Actually we just talked and nothing happened when you walked in...we were just going to hug." Even to myself I didn't sound convincing.

The next morning Nick greeted Jenna by kissing the top of her head...they are definitely a couple. Well it's good that he'll have someone seeing as I'm likely to die. I shake my head and force that thought out of my mind. Nick sat next to me, thank God for that; I'm not really sure how to act with Zack. I'm not even sure what the hell really happened last night. I really like him though, he's so kind, thoughtful, selfless and those eyes...but my mum is probably right boys will only hurt you in one-way or another, I need to be more careful.

Zack tries to talk to me after breakfast but I manage to avoid him, again after training and after lunch but he finally catches me in the gym. "Lalys, have you been avoiding me?" I shake my head making an excuse that I've been busy. "Well I was wondering..." He rubs the back of his neck, damn that was so cute. Justin striding up to me cutting whatever Zack was about to say short. "It's time that you unlock your power." What?

"Do you mean my 'element'?" He nods and drags me after him.

I'm in a white room - no surprise - and there are four bowls on the floor, set out in a square. One bowl contains dirt; another burning embers, the third water and the last has nothing. "Each bowl represents one of the elements: earth, fire, water and air. You will stand in the middle and your element will reveal itself to you." I nod and make my way to the center and close my eyes. I could feel a huge amount of energy suddenly flow through me. Pictures formed in front of my eyes and...huh? This can't be right...
