Chapter 27

In the morning once we had both cooled off I was in better spirits. "So are you wounded?" I ask him already knowing he is because of Nick and due to the fact I can see a red patch on his left sleeve. "I'm fine." He said short-temperedly.  I eventually persuaded him to allow me to look at it. "Well I can't give you stitches but if it isn't cleaned and disinfected that's going to get nasty. Why don't you get breakfast and I'll search for the stuff you need." With my dagger I don't even need to search so I have plenty of time to lounge around. I talk/think with Nick and assure him everything is fine and that I'll get in contact if I need them.

Thorn arrives with a variety of fruit and we feast while I clean, apply the herbal paste and bind his shoulder. "How do you know all this stuff if you weren't even brought up a guardian?"

"How do you know that?"

"Well you lived in that house in that little water tower town."

"How do you know about that?"

"Erik and I were the ones who set it alight." He says matter-of-factly. I freeze. Did he have any concept of what he had done? My family could've burnt to a crisp in there. Of course he doesn't get what he did. No remorse. No nothing 'cause he's a bloody Titan. I get up and begin walking, heading upstream towards the bridge.

"Layla?" He calls after me but I don't turn around. He jogs to catch up. "What's wrong with you? You're like a schizophrenic."

"That's rich coming from a psycho like you. My five-year-old sister could've been in there! Do you have any concept of that? My whole family could've been taken away with a strike of a match. I would have no one left! Do you know what that would be like? To be alone in this world?" I storm off before he can comment. He runs to catch up and grips my arm. "Layls, I'm sorry."

"Do you think that can even-" Did he just use my nickname? Layla, why is this even registering to you, stay focused on being mad. Okay I know what you're thinking: Layla Winters talks to herself in third person, definitely a sign of going insane but I promise you I am not crazy okay?

"Um – what was I saying before?" I ask as I look into those black eyes of his. They're so intense and dark and... forbidden? When I actually look him over his image practically screams 'Badboy' and 'Sexy' and 'Thrilling'. I shake my head, Zack, think of Zack. Well technically Zack and I aren't a couple...No, stop looking for loopholes just so you can stare at some eye-candy. Forbidden eye-candy. But you know how it goes: tell someone that they can't have something and they want it even more. Wait, no, I refuse to think about Thorn any longer. I just start walking again.

He keeps pace easily. "I can't figure you out." I think he says more to himself then to me. "Feelings mutual but guess what? That's humans for you. They make no sense." He pins me to a tree. What the hell?

"Ya but I can't read you and it's driving me insane."

"Well a) I'm not a book and b) you're already crazy."

"Layls," he whispers and I have to say that it sounded so damn sexy. He lightly traces his lips from my collarbone, up my neck and to my ear. My heart rate has about doubled. "Don't mock me or you'll see just how crazy I can be." He lets go of me and we walk in silence. I'm honestly not sure on what to think, but even though I know I shouldn't be I'm really turned on right now.

We settle at our next campsite at dusk. We gather up firewood and I easily set it alight. "Two elements, huh?" I just nod in reply. We've barely talked the whole day and boredom had started to creep in a long time ago so I go and sit next to him. He pretends like he doesn't even notice. I take my hair down. No reaction. I lean forward and reveal more of my already popping cleavage and sure enough his eyes wonder. Now that I've actually gotten his attention I'm not sure on what to do with it. "Layla, what are you doing?"

"Not too sure."And I'm not, I don't understand why I'm acting like this but I just can't help it. His eyes wonder over me and he swallows.

"I think I'm going to take my wolf for a run." As he gets up to go I grab his hand"Please don't go." I'm really not interested in being on my own and trying to entertain myself. "No, I really need a run." I playfully tackle him to the ground. I shake my head. "Nope, you're not going anywhere." His growl rumbles in his chest and he's suddenly flipped me over and is lying on top. His canines are out and he grazes them lightly over my skin. I'm not sure if he's flirting or threatening, with him I guess it could be a bit of both? He retracts them and I decide why the hell not? Why don't I try enjoy this? I'm not likely to live long anyways. I Place a hand at the back of his neck and play with his hair. He starts breathing hard. "Layls, I won't be able to stop myself if – if..." abruptly his lips meet mine in a hot, intense fury. This feels exciting. This feels dangerous. And I like it.

He rolls over and we pull out for breath. He trails kisses down my neck, into the hollow of my throat and onto my breasts and then back up again. I feel like I'm over heating, I like what he can do to me. Our kisses are either full blown passion or full blown lust, who knows? Who cares? All I care about is the feeling of his hands up and down my body and the taste of his lips on mine. He pulls out and growls, "You're mine." And I'm his and I – wait what? I snap out of whatever daze I was in and climb off him. "I'm not an object, I can't be owned." I say, a typical independent feminist. Anger practically radiates off of him. With a growl he pounces but I'm already rolling sideways, dagger out and I place it to his throat. God, his mood swings get to me. A calm has settled over him but it's the type of calm that doesn't reassure me but instead makes me nervous. "I'm a wolf Layla. You can't rile me up and expect me not to get dominant or possessive or aggressive."

"I don't know the way your world works, okay? I was just bored and-"

"-Right, you were just bored. Well I'm going for my run now, don't wait up." And with that he stormed off.
