Chapter 15

A vine extends to me, I grab it and it shortens as I'm about to hit the rock hard ground, I swing and jump. Landing on my feet, even though I stumble a little bit, it still makes me feel incredibly badass. The boy is nowhere in sight. I pick up my sword and try finding my way back to the others.

"Why is your hair wind-blown?" Nick asks. I tell him it's a long story. "Do the Titans also have partners?" Zack nods but tells me that they are some of members in the Quads - traitors, he calls them - joined the Titans.

"Great so we have Titans after us, which have powers, I might add, and we have no idea where the hell we are or in which time period-" wait. Something starts bugging me... "How are they here?" I ask the rest of them but when I only get a 'what the hell you on about woman' sorta look so I explain further. "They can only 'jump' to another time period with their seeker who only jumps to where Tristan's stone is so why are they in the same place as us?" Justin shrugs and reasons that maybe both Tristan's and Michael's stones are here, I want to point out how unlikely that coincident would be but there is no point in arguing about it now. "So where do we head now?"

"Well, Princess, it's your call." Justin says after a while of debating in which direction we should take. "Please, we all know that my navigating skills are sh*t." Zack gently grabs hold of my hand, I see Justin frown but he doesn't say anything. "Layls, I trust you. The locket should guide you in the right direction. Follow your instincts." No pressure.

After trekking through the mountains for hours the sun starts to settle and we decide to camp for the night. Nick, Zack and Justin start to build makeshift shelters while I go in search of firewood. I hear a twig break behind me and I twirl around, dagger ready. When I see Zack I lower my blade. "You scared me." He wraps his arms around me and apologizes. I don't know whether it's the sun set or if it's just in the spur of the moment but we are suddenly in a full make-out session. God, what's happening to me!

We pull apart, both breathing heavily. "So firewood..." Zack says, his voice is husky and damn it's so sexy. I mumble a mmm but can't unlock my fingers from his shirt. I look into his eyes. His lips meet mine again and I immediately respond by opening my mouth, his tongue messages my own. I didn't want it to end but as is expected in my life a hear someone clear their throat.

Justin's face is clouded over with disapproval. "Zack, I think we need to talk." Well that didn't sound good. "I'll just go and...um...collect firewood." I say and scramble away before the situation gets even more awkward. I'm lost in my thoughts - I'll admit they were mostly on Zack - when I hear voices in the distance. What happens if it's the boys again? So being the curious person I am I decide to go and investigate.

I find some good cover a safe distance from them but still close enough to hear them. "Erik, are you sure you know where you're going?" I see the dark-haired boy ask the other. The dirty-blonde rolls his eyes in irritation. "Yes, Thorn, I am sure."

"Just checking. So which one do you think was the seeker?" The light-haired boy -Erik- just shrugs. I think quickly of a plan to delay them, they'll catch up to us quickly. An idea sparks in my mind. Why not give it a try? I shrink back.

I find the narrowest part I can find on the way back to camp. Fire, I think. Spark, flames, anything? How the hell did I get those vines to move? I think back to the books I've read, I'm sure there was something on emotional triggers. Well the strongest emotion I've ever felt is rage and lucky for me I'm an angry person so it's pretty easy to summon. I think back on Justin's smirk when he beat me in sword fighting, Emma blackmailing me with my family...there's a heat rising within me. I'm seeing red and suddenly there are flames everywhere and I'm right in the middle of it.

Smoke is choking me and I can't stop it. The flames don't burn me but that damn smoke was suffocating. I sprint back for camp but the smoke makes me light headed. I can't see a thing; I can't control the fire. I black out.

I come to with a sudden cold feeling washing over me. Justin is a little way off of me, shimmering water vapor pushing the bush fire back, drenching me in the process. As the droplets touch my skin it immediately turns to steam. I have to choke down an inappropriate laugh from leaving my lips. Here I am almost dying and I'm thinking of jokes like: I'm smoking hot, literally.

Justin helps me up and drags me away, "What the f*ck did you think you were doing?" I tried to justify myself; did he really think that I didn't have a ligament reason for starting a raging bushfire? "The guys were after us again, I tried to stop them but it got a bit out of hand." He scoffs at me.

"Ya, a bit." His voice is thick with sarcasm. "We've been here for, what, a few hours and you've already nearly got yourself killed. That's pathetic!" I stop dead in my tracks. That comment was so uncalled for. I still have enough energy to have a good fight and I seriously contemplate it but then the wind picks up. Hard. Unnaturally strong. I look behind me, back at the fire, which looks like it is in the middle of a hurricane. They're here. We're in trouble.
