Chapter 11
I pull Jenna aside. "Listen, I need your help." She starts to look worried but then I say, "The dance is tonight and I have no idea what the hell to where, I'm not exactly a dress person." She grins and jumps up and down with excitement. "Don't worry. Katie, Tiffany and I are all meeting in my room to get ready. Meeting at 5:30 sharp."
Tiffany's elegant, Jenna is definitely striking and Katie's just plain beautiful so I'm surprised that when I take a look in the mirror I feel like a combination of the three. All of us are in cocktail dresses, high heels and natural looking make-up. Tiffany in a light pink dress, Jenna's green, Katie's purple and mine was a midnight blue. I'm not usually boastful about the way I look but — damn — I look good! The dark blue has a black netting with black glitter forming patterns. Black heels make me taller and the mascara and smoky eye shadow blends beautifully. Maybe this night wouldn't be to bad after all.
Zack's mouth fell open when he sees me. He's not to bad himself, a suit definitely made him look...wow. "You look beautiful," he whispers in my ear. Heat rushes to my cheeks, I thank him and we make our way to the dance being held I the hall. Beth and Taylor both give me poisonous looks but I ignore them. I have to admit I was having a good night, Alex and Katie snuck off a while ago — figures. Nick then lead Jenna away and I chuckle, good luck I think at her. I notice Tiffany staring at another boy; I'm guessing from his skin colour that he's a vampire too. I urge her to go and talk to him, "You think?" She asks me, unsure. I nod my head encouragingly and she walks over to him.
A slow dance comes on and Zack insists we go and I finally relent. I rest my head on his shoulder as we slowly sway around the dance floor. I look up into his amazingly blue eyes, he leans down and then I get pushed. I glance up to see Beth, "Whoops." She says gleefully, God one day I swear that I'll...Zack helps me up. Of course she had to destroy a perfect moment. I tell Zack that I'm going to go get something to drink.
There is only juice available so I consider going to steal from the adults' section but before I make up my mind Beth pitches up along with Taylor. "I don't know what the hell you think you're doing here. P.S. no matter what type of dress you put on you will never make that," she skiffs me. "...look pretty." I take a step towards her, "Is that the best you can come up with?" I challenge her. Beth picks up a punch bowl and chucks all it's contents on me. Suddenly Tiffany has Beth pinned against the wall, fangs bearing. Taylor gets pinned by Katie before she can leap to her partner's aid. Jenna is beside me; "Back off!" she warns them. Katie and Tiffany release them and they storm out the hall.
"You alright?" Jenna asks me. I nod.
"Sorry about your dress." She waves the matter off.
"Put it in the wash and it'll be fine."
"Beth is such a b*tch!" Katie fumes.
"Thanks guys, you know, for being here." I say sheepishly. They smiled at me, "What are friends for, right?" They really are great.
"You can put on another dress of mine," Jenna said to me. I shook my head. "Thanks but I think that I'm going to call it a night."
I shower, chuck on my PJs and go to climb into bed only to find Zack lounging on it. "I really need to get that lock changed," I joke. He smiles up at me.
"Look I'm sorry about what Beth did, that was compl-" I cut him off by telling him that it was seriously no biggie. I notice that there are two glasses, a bottle of Appletizer and a box of chocolates. He picks up the Appetizer and apologizes that it's not the real deal but it's the best he could get his hands on. I smile and jump onto the bed next to him.
We talk and joke and when the time has come for me to say goodnight I don't want to. "Thanks for this evening Zack. It was really fun spending time with you." "It was my pleasure," he says and moves a piece of hair that escaped my messy bun and tucked it behind my ear — deja-vu. I hook my arms around his neck and he encircles his around my waist. I stand on my tiptoes and he leans down, I'm glad Beth isn't here to interrupt this. My mums voice whispers in the back of my head but I ignore it, my first kiss is not going to be ruined by my paranoia. Then the door swings open. Great, can't a girl catch a break?
