chapter two
Selene ran into the dark forest as fast as she could. She was quickly approaching the boundaries of the pack, it felt as if her lungs were slowly being constricted tighter and tighter the longer she stayed within the pack boundaries. She needed to escape. The sweet release was only a few strides away, her lungs screamed at her and she licked her lips with the anticipation of being able to breathe in the warm afternoon air.
She broke through the boundaries and landed in the midst of the darkness of the forest. It was silent but the lack of sound filled her lungs and let her finally breathe.
Now, this may all seem quite dramatic, fleeing the pack after a minor altercation. I understand that this is a story about werewolves after all. Flesh-eating, domineering and violent creatures. And our lovely Selene merely punched Erik for putting his hands where they shouldn't have been. But we must acknowledge the moral and ethical code of the Lunar Rune pack and the lycanthrope people. Violence is unthinkable to the lunar rune people. Selene would have been reprimanded and made to believe that the moon goddess, in which Selene cares so deeply for, was ashamed.
Secondly, the lycanthrope people have a hierarchy, men must be respected. Always. Women are forbidden from causing the male lycanthrope to feel inferior in any which way unless of course, it is the luna addressing a male wolf in her pack because she is inferior to him. This is important to the structure of society-a strong and functioning patriarchy fuels the lycanthrope nations and the stability of the pack. Selene has just undermined that by inciting violence and overstepping her position as a woman in the pack and in the world.
Suddenly, a twig cracked in the distance sending Selene on edge. She spun around looking through the darkness trying to find the source of the sound, maybe a bird or a squirrel digging in the leaves. But she did not see a squirrel or a cute singing bird, she found something of the most formidable sorts: a set of glowing yellow eyes.
She stumbled backward afraid of the company she didn't know she had. Naturally, in the heat of the moment, she tripped over an uprooted tree root and fell backward onto her butt. Fear settled into the pit of her stomach and she was paralyzed with fear. The eyes grew larger as the creature slowly stalked its way over to her. A low growl slowly reverberated from the creature, although it is safe to say that the creature was definitely a wolf, as it emerged from the shadows that hid its identity.
It was a great big grey wolf. Its long fur resembled the illuminance color of the moon that gifted the sky every night. His large sharp teeth gleamed in the light as he raised his lips in an evil snarl.
His snarling snout was a mere five feet away from Selene's face, snapping at the vulnerable girl. She had frozen completely, afraid that if she moved at all she would become the wolves next snack. Right when Selene thought she was done for, two figures emerged from the forest.
Two very large males walked together towards the wolf showing no fear of its terrifying demeanor. They could both be described as tall, dark, and handsome. They're faces very stoic and they hid any traces of emotion with their facial expressions.
The one standing on the right spoke first
"Greg, that's enough. You scared the little thing enough for now." His tone revealed he was bored at the current events, unimpressed at "Greg" making a big show off whatever they were planning to do. The wolf obeyed, however, and backed away to make Selene comfortable enough to let out a breath she wasn't aware she was holding.
