"I'm glad we left, Scarlett."

The cool breeze whipped my unnaturally bright orange hair around my face as I stopped and turned to look at the person in front of me.

Daniel, my soulmate.

Two years ago, after we tied the knot back home in Australia we decided to leave it all behind and to move away: start over. Huntington Beach had somehow been our final resting place. Our little piece of solace in an ever demanding society.

I took his hands in mine and looked into his hazel eyes, smiling slightly as his light brown curls danced in the wind.

"So am I."

He leaned down and kissed the end of my nose as I giggled like a love struck teenager. I peered behind me as the revving of an engine then the high pitched squeal of tires losing traction filled my ears.

It all happened so fast.

I was flung sideways, smashing my head against the concrete. I felt whole right side of my body shatter and there was a thick, warm substance running down my face blurring my already impaired vision.

Everything was eerily silent as I tried to comprehend the scene in front of me.

There was a young boy who appeared to be no older than 17, slumped over the steering wheel in his now wrangled wreck of a car that had wrapped itself around a pole after hitting Daniel and I.

Then there was my husband. Laying motionless. My breath caught in my throat.

Adrenaline coursed through my veins as I peeled myself off the sidewalk to find help. The pain radiating through my head, through the right side of my body would have been unbearable if it wasn't for the adrenaline pumping through my veins. I limped to the nearest house, slamming my fist on the door repeatedly calling for help, praying someone was home.

My prayers we answered when the door opened.

"Yo Jimmy. Grab me another beer would you?"

"What do you think I am, Shadz? Your slave?"

"Yea man. Why do you think I invite you guys over all the time?" I laughed as I dodged a pillow thrown in my direction by Brian.

You'd think after spending majority of our time together, cramped on a tour bus we'd be sick of each other. But that was never the case. These guys were my best friends in the entire world and nothing in this world could ever change that.

"Are you gonna get that dude?" Johnny snapping me out of my daydream.

"Sorry what?"

"There's someone banging on your door. How on earth can you not hear that?" Zacky piped up.

I merely shrugged as I peeled myself off the couch and made my way to the front door. Upon opening it, I was shocked. There stood a girl gripping the side of the house as her small frame swayed side to side. Her hair was matted with blood and it poured down her face.

"What the.. SOMEONE CALL 911 RIGHT NOW." I screamed back through the house.

I reached out to guide her inside when she pulled away from me.

" No. No, you have to go help my husband. Please go help him. I'm fine. Go. Please just help my husband. I can't lose him."

I looked past her to the scene in front of me.

"BRIAN GET YOUR ARSE OVER HERE. JIMMY GO GRAB A BUNCH OF TOWLES."

Brian appears seconds later, his mouth agape at the girl in front of me.

"Take her inside and lay her on the couch. Try stop the bleeding with the towels Jimmy's getting and whatever you do, don't let her fall asleep. Tell Zacky and Christ to come help me."

Brian nodded swiftly and led the girl inside as I ran to the horrifying scene in front of me.
