"I'm glad we left, Scarlett."

The cool breeze whipped my hair around my face as I stopped and turned to look at the person in front of me. Daniel, my soulmate.

I took his hands in mine and looked into his hazel eyes, smiling slightly as his light brown curls danced in the wind.

"So am I."

He leaned down and kissed the end of my nose as I giggled like a love struck teenager. I peered behind me as the revving of an engine then the high pitched squeal of tires losing traction filled my ears.

I was flung sideways, smashing my head against the concrete.

I sat up panting, wincing as pain shot through my ribs. I wiped the tears staining my cheek.

My cast felt heavy against my arm as I stood up wrapping the blanket around my body and stepped out into the crisp night air. I breathed in the salty air letting my eyes close and my head fall back.

How did it get to this?

I opened my eyes and looked back out to sea, the tears continuing to fall down my face.

"You alright, Scarlett?"

I glanced to my right to find Brian on his balcony. I looked away and bit my lip nodding, not trusting my voice to give a believable response.

"What are you doing up at 3am?"

I could be asking you the same thing.

I shrugged in response still not looking at him.

"Scar?" My lip quivered as I took deep unsteady breaths and tightened the blanket around my body.

I saw him disappear out the corner of my eye before I heard the door open and he appeared in front of me.

He searched my face, sadness clouding his eyes as he pulled me into a hug. I just stood there allowing myself to cry until there were no tears left. He pulled away keeping his hands on my arms giving me a sad smile.

"Why don't we get you to bed?" He tucked a piece of hair behind my ear whilst I gave a slight nod.

He led my back inside, helping me into bed and pulling the blanket up to cover my body. He sat on the edge of the bed taking in my face and in that moment, I took in his.

His messy black hair stood up at obscene angles. His thin lips were pulled up in a slight smile. I noticed how little his nose was and how defined his cheekbones were. My eyes finally met his deep brown ones. Something seemed awfully familiar about him. And just like that, everything clicked.

"Synyster Gates." I whispered.

His small smile grew into his infamous smirk and he chuckled.

"I knew you'd figure it." I furrowed my eyebrows at him, at a loss of how he even knew I was a fan of his band. He seemed to catch onto my confusion.

"When we were waiting for the paramedics that day," he stopped to measure my reaction before continuing, "Jimmy was asking you a bunch of questions to keep you awake and you mentioned that we were your favourite band."

I blushed a little and looked away. "Oh.. Well.. Yea." He threw his head back, laughing.

"Synyster Gates never fails to make the ladies blush." I blushed a deeper shade of red.

"You're an arse with a big ego, y'know that?"

"I've been told one or twice." I could hear the cocky smile in his voice and I rolled my eyes at his response.

"So, how are your ribs?" He suddenly asked quite seriously. I turned to look at him and his face was one of complete seriousness, not a hint of joke left on it.

"They're fine." I lied.

"Yea, and I'm a goat. Tell me the truth." His expression was like one a father would give when he's disappointed.

"My ribs hurt, my arm hurts, my head hurts, the whole right side of my body is just in pain. My heart hurts and the sucky thing is, I know it'll never heal like the rest of my injuries." There was silence as he took in my outburst.

"Scar, your heart will heal with time. Trust me. You'll find another man to heal it." He smiled at me and rested his hand on my leg, rubbing it gently in comfort.

"I don't want anyone else, though. I want Daniel." He just gave me a sad expression before looking away and shaking his head slightly.

"I'm going to go get some painkillers for you for the pain. I'll be right back."

He stood up and made a swift exit from the room and I heard his footsteps descending the stairs.

I looked back out the doors to the ocean. How everything has changed in such little time. When my life couldn't be more perfect something has to come along and ruin it. That had always been the case. The dull ache of heartbreak in my chest made my play with the rings absentmindedly.

"Here you go." I was snapped out of my thoughts and jumped a little at his unexpected return.

He chuckled lightly. "Scare you?"

"Yea, sorry. I was thinking."

He handed me the pills which I great fully swallowd.

"Well I should let you rest." He kissed the top of my head and walked towards to door. I started to panic.

"Bri? Can you stay with me, I don't want to be alone." A pained expression crossed his face before he composed himself.

"I'd love to Scar, but I don't think my girlfriend would be very happy with that."

My eyebrows furrowed. He had a girlfriend? I mentally slapped myself, of course he has a girlfriend! How could he not?

"I'll send Jimmy in, alright?"

I only nodded. He looked at me a little while longer.

"Did the pain wake you up? Is that why you were crying? Because you were in pain?"

I considered telling him the truth but something stopped me.

"You could say that." He just nodded, reaching for the door handle.

"I'll go get Jimmy for you. I'll see you in the morning." And with that, he left.
