The years rolled by, but Daryl never forgot about his best friend that left him when he was only eight years old. The boy had left a huge impact on Daryl, he wasn't a rotten, spoiled little brat like all the other kids with very wealthy families. He was kind and sweet and very down to earth.

Daryl wishes that he got to spend more time with Paul before he left, but he knew that it was bound to happen. Like stated before, everyone eventually winds up leaving Daryl. He knew that, he had to get over it, but for some reason he just couldn't. Daryl always found himself doing little things that Paul use to do.

Of course Daryl was mad at Paul and his foster parents, I mean he didn't even get to say goodbye. Paul never warned him about moving out of town or possibly out of state. He just left Daryl at that park for weeks on end without any explanation whatsoever. Daryl hated Paul, but at the same time how could he? Paul was the only true best friend Daryl ever had. That's why he always found his way going back to that park on bad days.

When Daryl's mother had tragically died, Daryl was so angry and sad. He didn't know what else to do then to run to that park and cry next to a tree stump that use to be a beautiful large oak tree that he and Paul use to climb on. Daryl hoped that somehow or someway Paul would just know that Daryl was there and he'd find his way to him. But Paul never came back, because Daryl knew that everyone left him. Paul, his mother, this stupid oak tree that is now only a memory, and soon enough his older brother would pack up his things and leave Daryl to live with his abusive father alone.

Soon after Daryl turned 17 he stopped going to that park altogether. He even refused to pass on his way to, well, anywhere. He had to let go of his childhood best friend that most likely didn't even remember him. He needed to stop dwelling on the past and he knew that. That's when his tough act started to come through and his walls started to build up.

In his adulthood Daryl had eventually completely forgot about Paul. He has even moved out of the neighborhood that he grew up in and lived in a run down cabin like house in the middle of nowhere. He had learned to fight and fend for himself with the help of his best friend, the crossbow. He then lived the normal redneck life. A complete asshole who is racist, homophobic, and casually waving around a confederate flag.

The old Daryl would hate to see what he's become, that young innocent child wouldn't have ever guessed that he would've turned out like this. He only did because of fate. After Paul left him, his life went completely downhill, and nothing was ever the same.

Soon after Daryl had hit his 30s that's when, not only his life continued to go to shit, but the world had gone to shit too. The dead started walking the earth due to some kind of outbreak that started in Florida and worked its way up and around the world.

Daryl had then met people who were bound to change him and his life. After months of Daryl's stubbornness they had become family to him. He cared about these people so much and he was so glad that a shitty thing has brought these people to him.

Losing people was still hard for Daryl though, just as it was for everyone else. He hates to think that as soon as he starts to really care for someone they leave him, but it always happens and after it does his walls get built a foot higher.

There are only a handful of people he actually let's in, and break down those walls one brick at a time. Of course he still has his guard up through those times, and he has his limits, but he still slowly lets these people in. He has even told some people about his childhood, which he never expected would ever happen.

The whole racist, homophobic, confederate flying redneck asshole act has been dropped and once again Daryl is a decent human being. And it's all thanks to these amazing group of people he has grown to love and care about.

A few years into the apocalypse, Daryl had come face to face with someone he had never thought he'd see again. The little brown haired blue eyed boy was now grown and more deceiving than ever. Just like Daryl, Paul has changed. He now even goes by Jesus.

Daryl had so much hatred towards Paul. He wanted to punch him, kick him, shoot him in the arm with an arrow. He wants him to feel the same exact pain that Daryl had felt when Paul left him. Except that kind of pain wasn't physical, and no physical pain could even in the slightest bit hurt as much as the emotional pain Daryl had been put through.

Daryl hated Paul, but at the same time he didn't. He cared so much for this guy when he was a kid, and deep down, way, way, way deep down he still cared only a little bit. He wanted to hug him, slap him, then hug him again. But he knew that Paul doesn't remember him in the slightest bit.

That wasn't true though. Of course Paul remembers his best friend. How could he forget him? He was so heart broken the day he was forced to move out of town and never see the boy again. He wanted to runaway and find his best friend once again, but he never could. The pain he felt was the worst kind he has ever felt. He never felt that sad before, not even when a foster family had decided to not adopt him.

He cares so much about Daryl. He was standing here right before him once again, those blue eyes staring right back into his. He wanted nothing more than to hug him and tell him how sorry he is, but he thought, no he knew, that there was no chance in hell that Daryl had even remembered him.

So here stood the two men who were once best friends, not making any sort of move towards each other because they think they know what each other is thinking.
