I smile as all the glittering lights fell around me. I knew I had to keep my speed and accuracy high. I jump up, spinning in midair. I land gracefully on my feet, giving the audience the brightest grin possible.
“Melody Clark everyone!” The announcer proudly says into the microphone. Claps begin to be heard all around the room and I can see my parents cheering wildly.
I’m Melody Clark; I have lengthy ruby red hair color, sparkling blue eyes, and my passion? Dancing! Once upon a time when I was just a small girl, I loved creating my own dances. After long and sweaty hours of practice, I’d film and edit most of my creations. When I thought they were as perfect as possible, I’d force my parents to sit in the family room and watch every single minute of it. To this day, I thank my parents for praising me as a child, because without their support I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Being seventeen and a junior in high school is hard enough with friends and drama, but when you add boys into the mixture it just gets worse. I have had a couple steady boyfriend’s, but they usually get bored when a girl doesn’t “put out.” In my opinion, it’s their loss! If they can’t stick around and get to know a girl then maybe there not right for me. Sometimes I wonder if love really does exist. I can see it between my parents but anywhere else I look, it seems unreal.
My parents have been packing up our house for the last two weeks, because we are relocating for my dad’s job. Unfortunately, I have to leave all my friends behind. On the bright side, I’m sure I will make new friends that will care for me.
I sigh and gaze around my old room once more before grabbing my iPod. I unwillingly walk toward my Dad as he shouts, “Mel, come on now! We’ve got to get on the road.”
I nod and follow him outside toward the car. I see my Mom in the passenger’s side, ready to go. I sigh again before slipping into the backseat and gazing out the window as Dad drove toward our new house.
I plug in my headphones before turning my iPod on shuffle. I begin to think of some positive reasons for moving to a different state. One: New boys. Maybe I could become friends with some or even have a few boyfriends. I’d hope they wouldn’t be jerks like at my old school. Second: I get to leave all the rude and disrespectful kids and third: I get a second chance at being myself, instead of being “Labeled” by the cheerleaders. I grin to myself, am I actually thrilled about moving?
I feel someone gently shaking my shoulder. “Wake up, we’re home!”
I rub my tired eyes to notice how dark it is. I ignore the fact of how tired I am; instead I jump out of the car to go explore our new enormous house!
I walk into the house, finding myself in a living room area possibly? The ceilings were really high up, giving me excitement because it could mean more room to dance in! The next room is a kitchen with marvelous granite counter tops with an island in the middle. New stainless steel appliances made the whole kitchen seem unfamiliar, but I’d adjust.
“Mel, want to see your room?” Mom wonders with an energetic smile on her face. I nod at her then follow her down a flight of stairs. The first room is a family room, with our TV and couches inside. The Laundry room came next, with all new appliances. At the end of the hall is my room I assume. Mom smiles at me before opening the door and leading me inside.
“Dad thought it would be perfect room for you since you like your space.”
My mouth drops to the floor! The walls were a pretty peach color that matched my comforter well. Shelves hung on the wall, a great place to put all my movies and books. I find I have my own personal bathroom and there is a sliding door leading outside. I turn toward Mom and give her a bear hug!
“This is awesome. I can tell I’m going to love it here!”
She grins at me and nods before saying goodnight. I decide on sleeping as well, tomorrow I hope we can explore the town more.

I let my body slid down onto the grass, feeling exhausted from dancing. Our backyard is the perfect place to practice, it seems like it never ends!
“Hey Melody!” Dad voices as we walks out onto the porch. “Shall we go for a walk?”
I smile and bounce down the porch steps. I decide on taking random twists and turns for the fun of it. To my surprise, I find a soothing park. A few kids ran around the big field, playing a game of tag. I smile and take a seat beside Mom on the wooden bench. I relax my tired body and close my eyes, enjoying the parks peacefulness.
“Excuse me, could I borrow your phone?” A female voice asks. I open my eyes to see one of the kids that were just playing tag a few minutes before I arrived. I nod and hand my mom’s cell to her. She smiles brightly and sat beside me before dialing a number.
“Thank you!” She says before giving it back to run with the other kids again. Mom smiles at me and stood to go tell Dad something.
“Did my little sister bug you?”
I turn to see a girl about my age heading toward me. She has dark brown eyes that matched her own hair perfectly. I shrug at her.
“She was really polite.” I laugh as the girl smiles and nods at me.
“Oh good! I’m Silver by the way,” She introduces with a friendly smile, holding out her hand.
“Melody.” I reply as I shake her hand.
“That’s an interesting name! Did you just move here?”
I feel my cheeks slightly redden, “Yeah, I’ll be starting school soon.”
“Oh awesome! You can totally sit with me and my friends at lunch!”
I nod at her, “Thank you! I’ve got to go, but I’ll see you at school?”
She smiles brightly at me and I stand to go back home with my parents.
“Oh, I defiantly have a guy friend that would love to meet you!” Silver calls after me and I turn around to nod and smile at her.
I smiled to myself as butterflies took over my stomach; Guys weren’t interested much in me at my old state, I couldn’t wait to meet this guy Silver talked about!
