ZAC'S POV

AS GWEN TURNED in the  parking lot of the school, my blood ran cold as I saw Connor standing over James's bloody body smirking.

"Stop the car." I demanded Gwen.

"But we are in the middle of the roa-"

"I said stop the car!" I yelled, she immediately stopped the car and I got out slamming the door. I stomped towards the prick with an angry expression.

"What the FUCK?!" I ask Connor punching him the face. He stumbled to the ground and I glared at him like he was my father.

"Why the hell is James's body bloody? What the fuck did you do to him?!" I asked standing over Connor's scared frame.

"He attacked me!" He answered win fear in his voice.

Gwen's voice then spoke standing next to James helping him out, "If he actually attacked you, then there would be a red mark or a bruise on your face, because from what I know and see mostly, is that people attack the face first and then the body. And if there's no bruise then that shows that James has weak arms, but judging by how his muscles can practically rip his shirt, I'm guessing it wasn't a nice and light punch." When she was done reasoning and calling Connors bluff everyone's eyes were wide, including me.

I looked back at Connor and he looked nervous because he was caught, "You piece of shit." he swore and stood up from the ground. "So, what if I did attack him first?" He asked brushing imaginary dust on his pants.

I gave him a icy glare, "Then I would attack you back." with that said I threw a punch at him and I hit him right in the head.  He fell back and he groaned not liking the pain in his head.

I climbed on top is him and continued punching him.

"This is for James!"

Punch. Punch.

"This is for calling Gwen a piece of shit!"

Punch.

"And this one is just for fun."

Punch. Punch. Punch.

He fell unconscious, his face was bloody and he looked dead. I looked over at Gwen, her face was a little shocked but most of it she was happy that I was defending her.

I walked towards her and James, I helped him up and he groaned, "Piece of shit, I think he broke one of my ribs.." he said getting up. I clenched my jaw trying to not kill the fucker.

"Everybody out and get the class!" We heard the principle yell. My eyes widened and I picked James up and ran for Gwen's car. Surprisingly, she ran along with me with a little fear in her eyes.

We got in the car and instead of sitting back seat with James, I sat in the front seat.

"Really?" He asked wincing.

I looked back raising an eyebrow, "What?"

"Isn't the boyfriend supposed to sit in the back seat comforting his girlfriend?" He asked cocking his own eyebrow.

I chuckled and gave him a smirk, "Sorry to disappoint you babe, but I'm not your type." I winked at him and he gave me a fake hurt look.

"Where should I go?" Gwen asked starting the car.

"Hospital, we gotta check and see if James really does have a broken rib." She nodded and drove to the hospital.

"It feels like I have a broken rib.." James winced.

It was silent until we made it to the hospital. Gwen's phone soon started to ring. She looked at the ID and I saw her eyes sadden.

"Uh, you guys go on ahead-" she gulped, "I-I'll Meet you guys in there." I gave her a confused look but nodded anyways.

"Ok, come on James I'll help you out." I said, I got out of the car and walked over to James's side.

When I closed the door and stared walking towards the doorway, I turned back and looked back at at Gwen.

When I saw her, her eyes were watering a little and she looked stressed. She sighed and a tear finally streamed down. My eyes widened when I'd saw her completely sob.

I tried my best to ignore her, but I couldn't help it.

I started to walk faster to the main doors. I called a doctor and he helped James out.

I then ran out of the hospital doors and went back to where Gwen parked her Jeep. To my luck she was still there, but she looked like she was about to leave. And she was.

When she was pulling out of the parking spot, I did the last thing I thought I would do.

I ran in front of her car and got hit, I collapsed on the ground with a thud. I let out a groan and, my head hurt like a bitch.

"Oh my God! Zac, why would you do that?!" She screeched, she looked at me with worry in her eyes, she bent down to my level.

I chuckled, "Only way to keep you from leaving.." my voice was just above a whisper.

"W-Why?" She looked shocked.

"Well, you were crying and so I thought you needed some comfort." More tears were now streaming down her cheeks and she blushed.

"Why do you care..? Why don't you just be Zac Brown and act like all the rumors?" She sobbed, I sat up and wrapped my sore body around hers. She wrapped her own arms around me and I groaned from the pain. But I didn't care, Gwen needed my comfort right now.

"I care because your my friend. And I can't be like the all the rumors because... I just can't be like that." I stated rubbing her back soothingly.

My kind words made her cry more, I felt my shirt get wet and her tears got soaked into the piece of cloth.

"Th-Thank you.." she muttered.

I nodded breaking the hug. I moved a hair out of her eyes, "Are you going to tell me why you were crying?" her eyes went wide and her breathing hitched in her throat. Her mouth opened and closed millions of times, she couldn't think of words.

She took her time, and she ran out of it when doctors came rushing out to take me in and check on me. They were rushing me to an aid, not letting me look or see an answer.

I turned back saw Gwen's shoulders shaking and her head in her hands.

That was the last thing I saw before tiredness took over me and my eyes dropped closed and were locked shut.
