ZAC'S POV

Tuesday

I LOOKED at my phone with a frown on my face, 'Ball of Sunshine' it read. I don't know what was wrong with me, I never stopped looking at the name.

Something about Gwen that makes me want to know more about her.

Right now, I was laying in my bed in with sweats, a t-shirt and my glasses on. I was going to go back and continue playing Candy Crush, but my fingers wouldn't let me move them. I scoffed at myself and shut my phone off and tossed it on my bed getting out my lap top instead.

I scrolled on random websites, and I found myself on YouTube, I played a good song that I enjoyed; Wavin' Flag, by K'naan.

I don't know what gets me to like this song, it just reminds me of something that I can't quite think of.

I heard my parents starting to argue again in the room below me, and I grabbed my headphones and I plugged them into my lap top and I placed the earphones into my ears, blocking the world out enjoying the song.

I started enjoying it and started drumming my fingers to it. I listened to the lyrics closely and the man sang;

When I get older
I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom
Just like a wavin' flag.

I hummed to the song, enjoying the lyrics. I felt my phone rumble next to me, I opened my eyes and I saw a text, from Ball of Sunshine. I scoffed at the name and I grabbed my phone looking at the text Gwen has sent.

Ball of Sunshine

Sent 4:30pm

Hey, when are you coming over?

Mr. Mental

Sent 4:31pm

I'm coming over right now, calm your ass, send me your address and I'll be over in a jiffy.

I sent the text, I got up from my bed and I just slipped on my shoes and a hat on. I packed my phone, wallet, keys, headphones and I packed my lap top and a few papers and pencils just in case.

I felt lazy today, so I stuck with my glasses and sweats on.

I stepped out of my room and I heard my mom cussing at my dad about marrying him and having me. I flinched a little when she said that I shouldn't have been born. I clenched my jaw and erased the thoughts away from my head and walked confidently away from my parents.

I slammed the door and I got a text from Gwen saying her address. I put it in my maps on my phone, I got in my car and stared driving away to her house.

***

I stopped the car and I looked at the address, I saw that it was the same as the one Gwen sent me. I turned off my truck and I hopped out with my bag.

I walked up to the door and I knocked, I waited for a few seconds, I heard somebody yell that they would get it and the door swung open.

I was expecting Gwen to be standing there, but instead, I saw a women that looked like she was in her mid 30's, she had blue eyes and short blonde hair. She looked like Gwen, the only difference was the face shape and hair length.

She gave me a kind smile, "Hello, you must be Zac right?" She asked opening up the door. I nodded my head my eyes never leaving hers. "Great! I'll get Gwen down here in a second." She said and she left my sight into the hallway.

"Gwen, Zac is here!" I heard her yell. I heard a faint 'ok' coming from upstairs.

Mrs. Pearson turned towards me and saw that I was still standing in the doorway. "Oh my goodness! I'm sorry, I didn't invite you in!" She giggled at herself and waved towards me saying that I can come in.

I took my shoes off and I started taking in my surroundings. "Your house is very alive." I mumbled.

"I know right?" A familiar voice asked, I looked over and I saw Gwen standing there with her eyes looking at pictures of her family.

"Well, I guess we should start on the project then right?" She asked breaking the silence. I nodded again and followed behind her up the stairs.

When I made it to her room, I was expecting it to be clean and organized, but I was wrong. The floor had some clothes on the floor, her desk was messy and unorganized, and so was the top of her dresser. "Nice room." I commented.

"Sorry about the mess." She let out a nervous laugh and walked towards her bed.

"It's fine." I waved her off, I walked towards her bed and I collapsed on it laying next to her. Not caring if I was being rude. I got out my laptop and started looking at music again.

"So, got any ideas on what your going to do?" Gwen asked, I looked up at her with tired eyes.

"Well, ya but I don't know how to start it," I reasoned, I saw her nod in the corner of my eye.

"Did you even start the project?" She asked again.

"No." I stated.

"You had all day today while you were at home doing nothing." She gave me a look. I was a little taken back by how she made it sound like she glared at me.

"Uh- sorry, I was busy-"

"Busy doing what?" She interrupted me, I was taken back again.

"Doing nothing." I snapped, she nodded leaving it there.

"Ok," she wiped the annoyance off her face and, was replaced with a smile. Almost like that never happened. "Well, I started my essay on how to start, wanna look at mine and get ideas?" She suggested looking at me with her bright brown eyes.

"Sure, why not?" I asked myself like I said 'YOLO'.

She passed me her laptop and I looked at her document.

These last 4 years at Riverview High has been good and bad for me. The good memories were good, and the bad memories were bad. Even though we've all been through some tough times, they were always overcame by the good times. But no matter what happened, I still love this school and the people in it.

When I was done reading to what she's got I finally got some ideas. I handed back her lap top and went to mine and opened up a document, and I started typing ideas.
