It was the perfect day for a wedding. Outside was perfect, the dress was perfect, and the whole scenario was perfect. There was only one thing that I️ need right now to make the day the best one yet, Maxon.
Two years. I️ have been waiting for two years to take his last name. I️ have been waiting seven hundred and thirty days to marry the love of my life, and today was finally the day.
As Mary, Lucie, and Marlee made my makeup look spotless and my hair look fabulous, there was a whole team of people around me working on my dress. Never had I️ ever imagined that my life would take this turn.
When I️ was little I️ imagined myself getting married at a small party with our two families, but now I️ am getting married with almost the whole world watching me. I️ imagined wearing a small dress, if even that, but now I'm wearing a dress much more elaborate than it needs to be.
"You look stunning, America!" Marlee beamed. The woman I️ saw in the mirror looking back at me was me, only more regal. My hair was halfway pulled up into an intricate bun, while my makeup was so simple it almost looked like there wasn't any there.
"Thank you, Marlee." Behind me I️ heard Sylvia call out people's names and some numbers I️ didn't recognize. I️ caught "One hour!" and "Let's go, people!"
One hour. One hour till I️ become the queen of Illea. One hour until I️ become American Magda Schreve. One hour. I️ could do this.

"Do you, King Maxon Calix Schreve, take Queen America Magda Singer to be your lawfully wedded wife. To have, and to hold, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health?" The words were a distraction for all the people in the audience. To Maxon and I️, they were merely there for looks and publicity. We knew we were going to love each other for eternity, wedding vows or not.
"I do," he said never breaking eye contact with me. The priest rattled the words at me this time "- in sickness and in health?" is all I caught. I was so lost in Maxon's eyes.
"I do," I beamed.
"With the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride," boomed the priest.
Maxon took his time. He dropped my hands at my side and stepped forwards. He took my face in his hands, dipped his head, and planted the softest kiss against my lips, almost a ghost of a kiss. The crowd went wild.
Walking out of the ceremony was magical. Flower petals were falling from all around, red, white and pink ones. My hand was in Maxon's, and nothing in the world could ruin this moment. Around me I looked at the people in the rows of seats. I saw my mother and the rest of my family all with tears in their eyes. I saw Aspen with Lucy and Marlee with Carter.
After many interviews, we were finally allowed to go to our bedroom for some feast before the party.
"So, how does it feel, Mrs. Schreve?" Maxon asked on the way to our room. I giggled.
"Well, other than having this dress on for too long, it feels great," I replied, cheekily. Maxon chuckled and threw his arms around my shoulder and walked us to the room.
"You know, we're married now. We're king and queen." Maxon threw his head back and laughed. He pulled me closer to his body and I inhaled his intoxicating scent.
"Darling, we are so much more than just the Queen and King."
