"welcome back, young mistress! congratulations on your graduation! you're now a young woman," one of the maids smiled brightly addressing Kim Jaerin, only daughter of the founder and CEO of the Wotte group.

"thank you, auntie!" Jaerin hugged her tightly.

"i got you a present as well to congratulate you on finishing a chapter of your life and beginning a new one. think of this as a college present because i also heard you were accepted to Seoul University through a scholarship! the young mistress is too smart," the maid, Suji, handed her a gift back.

"i just didn't want to seem like the type of rich girl to get into college using my parent's hard earned money. i can manage myself. yenno how i am," Jaerin smiled while removing the gift wrap to reveal a pair of red and black bluetooth beats.

Jaerin's eyes lit up with excitement and Suji smiled sincerely at her reaction. "thank you so much!" Jaerin gave her another hug and jumped up and down.

"no problem" she hugged back, "this is for you to use to block out all the unnecessary people if they bother you.

later in her room, she settled down and plopped down on her bed. suddenly, she heard a knock on her door.

"it's open" jaerin sat up to see who it was. suji stood in front of the entrance.

"so are you ready to tell your parents?" suji asked.

Jaerin took a deep breath. "yeah i think i am"

they both smiled at each other before Jaerin got up and they both headed downstairs.

Mr. and Mrs. Kim were sitting in the family room.

Dad was sitting on the sofa reading something on his tablet and Mom was leaning against his shoulder drinking her tea and playing candy crush.

i made my way to the loveseat across from them and Suji was standing next to the seat.

they both diverted their eyes to me and set their things on the coffee table.

"is something the matter, princess?" my dad asked with a concerning tone.

"i have something i want to announce" i straightened my back, put my hands on my lap, and took a deep breath.

"well, i thought since i'm done with high school and i got accepted into Seoul University that I would rent out an apartment that was closer to the campus and it--"

"absolutely not." my mom interrupted. she stood up and came to sit next to me, "sweety, it's very dangerous for you out there. your father has enemies everywhere. it's not safe for you in the outside world."

Dad nodded in agreement, "that's right"

"pleaseee. i can take care of myself. i don't have a black belt in taekwondo for nothing."

"well, how are you going to pay for your apartment? we know how much you hate borrowing money from us."

"i have money saved up from my part-time job!"

"since when did you get a part-time job?"

"since my first year. i've had a job at the convenience store down the street from my school for 3 years now"

"WHAT? how come you never told us about this?!" Dad threw his hands up in the air

"because i knew you'd freak out like you're doing right now"
